Kotos are as complex as any harp, if not more. I suppose the Shamisen is kind of banjo like. Most instruments across the world have similar counterparts or even evolved from the same source.
It's the piano and organ that no one else came up with. They're rightly called the kings of instruments. Especially organ more than piano.
