>>128711727Shockingly not bad. Crazy that this is why we (still) have The Simpsons.
You Broke My Heart in 17 Places [MCA, 1984]Unlike most of her cocharting cofemales, Ullman has undertaken a conscious genre exercise--she plays girl-group tradition for naive if not dumb passivity. The songs new and old are tuneful and right, the production exquisitely not-quite-schlocky, but just-compare her "Bobby's Girl" to Marcie Blaine's original--Ullman sings with too much force and skill to make the conceit convincing. On the other hand, it's probably her musical conscience that saves the project from unmitigated "ironic" condescension. "They Don't Know" did hit at face value, after all. B+
>>128711727(((THEY))) dont know
>>128711804you know Marcie Blaine was a Jew, right?
>>128711727>it's a cover-10 points

More 80s retro nostalgia This country group tries to cover the old Moonglows cum McGuire Sisters hit. Unfortunately it's boring as shit.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGjR_AXactkWell it's not as bad as the Forester Sisters' "Sincerely." Bland 80s AC shit with none of the turbo cheese of the 50s originals.

>>128711950Yeah, Fay Ray is really cool.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xuhH4mfSh7s
>>128712224by the 80s the music industry had become enough of a well oiled megabucks machine that it could churn out some really suffocating boring hits like "Right Here Waiting." that wasn't possible in the 50s or 60s when the industry was a lot less sophisticated.
This song is so catchyhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3n6yHUzQXkk

>>128713995Covers usually don't improve on the original as this thread proved. At worst they're filler for when there's not enough original material to pad out the album.
