Rolling Stone was always a massive cancerous magazine, let's not kid ourselves, and one of the reasons rock criticism was doomed to failure from the get-go

>always hated fun, only tolerated super-serious singer songwriter rock
>had a list of select musicians such as the Stones and Dylan that were never allowed to get bad reviews
>ditto anyone else Jan Wenner wanted to have sex with or ingratiate himself with
>despite always being super left-leaning and featuring a left-coded political article in every issue, still manage to piss off SJWs by mostly ignoring non-white male artists
>since the 90s they start worshiping bands like Zeppelin and AC/DC that they considered the worst thing ever in the 70s
>were literally paid advertisement for Bruce Springsteen since Dave Marsh was married to Springsteen's publicist
need i go on?

I never cared for it, always seemed like a boomer mag to me even back in like 2008

I'm old enough to have been into music in the early 90s. An aunt got me a subscription as a well-meaning gesture but they never covered any of the bands I was into.

it was always the type of mag that you could read it cover to cover and come away with nothing that stuck in your head

even Cuckgau at least liked fun music

it was apparent since early on that critics and the average rock listener were looking for totally different things in their music

He pretty much canonized John Lennon's bitter, deluded, primal scream-era post-Beatles diatribe as the definitive testament of his life just because RS got the scoop on it, and it severely distorted both his and the band's historiography for a long time. Even John himself disavowed most of it years later.

This mindset blighted music journalism and P4k took it up with a vengeance.
