Is it worth collecting physical in 2025?
>>
its worth but its not worth shelling out silly money for funkos. its worth though for archival, to keep the data offline out of AI pozzing.
>>
If you think any music is important write it down on mulberry paper the oldest examples of ths paper have been around for 1400 years and it’s still in good condition

Yeah if you have a way of playing it. I still enjoy popping in a CD and committing to the whole album

It's only 600 years old but archival butt music is also heckin valid

CDs are spectacular and are recognized as the best physical format (both lossless and widely available). I also enjoy having a collection of my favorite albums and even for burning my own mixes off my obsolete windows xp desktop

this. I do have a digital collection but it's stored entirely on-prem with no direct access from outside. Jellyfin for the UI

I also have a physical collection (mostly vinyl). It's a fairly small collection, comprised only of albums that I absolutely love. Buy it on bandcamp, get the free hi-def download with it.

Streaming is for casuals and soccer moms. No wonder AI slop is topping charts, they're appealing to people who don't even really get into music.

i would've been really impressive if they could play that music using the medium upon which it was printed.
>>
Yes, physical storage media and physical silver.

No

Yes

Streaming services only offer brickwalled loudness war remasters of older albums, which are not suitable for anyone with decent equipment or who gives half a fuck about the music they listen to.

Zoomers are canceling their subs lately, I guess this thread is part of the snapback against that? Very viral.

wait till this guy finds out about torrenting

Definitely

Stay away from vinyl tho. The sound quality is usually worse than cd, it's too expensive, and the snap-crackle-popping is annoying as fuck.

CDs ftw

Vinyl's great if you're not a filthy disgusting pet owner though. I guess, like with the smell, people like you try to ignore the dander and hair. But if you own vinyl that's impossible.

CDs, yes.
