>>128727224>wasn't it the savior of indie music? No they weren't. You and mu fell for it as you're cattle that spam the catalog with the new flavor of the month (eg geese, Fantano, Kendrick...)
>>128727224>wtf went wrongMy guess, as someone who enjoys the windmill scene a lot, is that there are not enough actually good, distinctive bands to take note of since most of them are influenced by each other creating this incestuous cycle of creativity and self-references. The "big three" of black midi, bcnr and squid all sound quite distinct from each other but you could clearly tell they were part of the same scene. Those three are also the most forward thinking of the bands there and sonically very unique in general, with I suspect very different influences from each other. The main glaring issue is that most of them sound the same.On the other hand, there are some very good new bands popping up that I really believe should get the level of popularity that those three did - Speedial, Drive Your Plow, Mary in the Junkyard, Westside Cowboy, Charlemagne, Ugly (not that new but yk). Dove Ellis is another one, but he's a very unique case personally.I suspect the music press also stopped caring after a while and so set their sights to other places. If you're tapped in enough, more melodic alt rock is very slowly making a comeback in the UK, with bands like Wunderhorse, Keo, Radio Free Alice etc. Like naturally I guess the windmill's cultural relevance has/is declining unless some new awesome distinct bands pop up. Looking back, its amazing how popular how the big 3 got given how weird their sound was. Hopefully it happens again.>wasn't it the savior of indie music?I'd argue that it did breathe new life into indie music and gave rise to a few very talented bands, but it wasn't ever going to "save" it in a mainstream sense, because it is simply too weird to penetrate that market. You could argue that isn't the point though, which is also true since there are many new bands and younger people who are seemingly inspired by black midi and bcnr and the whole overall "sound" of that scene.
>>128727224Is the black guy named midi? Have you heard of the band called All Fields?
