I've got a playlist if anyone is interested: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLwMbJHbPTdVUi4_TvujuaUhRl-IXhBUyu
>>128766124Very nice anon.
>>128766161Thanks, it is a little more fanciful than I usually induldge in, but was not on the synth playlist I posted in a previous thread.
Last years listensI enjoyed "Caduceus - Middle Ages" from the previous thread a lot and "inattentive apprentice - Why must wizardry be so complicated?" was nice, given that most post 90s DS is overly polished for my taste
>>128766128nice list. it is very close to the order I did listen so far.
Hello, I'm review anon from last thread, I've been struggling to keep up on the releases these last few days because I've been really busy, but I hope to get up to date tomorrow!
Some contributions from last year's threadshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7moXQLTcfvEhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g47kfXWRm6whttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=18JSCpXtQP0
>>128766128Cool
The calendar for the year!We still need to decide the Christmas eve blast.
>>128767237Ashmadai
>>128767258I really like this pick. When the drums come in on I Myth it's magical.
Who is the Zappa of dungeon synth?
>>128766802thanks for the reviews! dont you worry, take your time. last thing we want is to get uncomfythat being said, a friend of mine was desperatly looking forward to (and waiting for) the Potions of Eleanor review
>>128767493Sequestered Keep
>>128767758Was surprised to find out he was the one behind Fief AND Thangorodrim. Well, Fief moreso, Thangorodrim really has a similar feel to a lot of it.
>>128766905>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=18JSCpXtQP0 [Embed]haha i remember posting this last year and people went bat shit over it being about dinos not vampires or castles. absolutly love this release
>>128767493going by the level of insufferability and notoriety but also influence, Erang
>>128767893what has he influenced?
>>128767943propably 60% of amateurish bandcamp projects out there, since he published some sample packs and guides to make your own dungeon synth.and all the modern dungeon synth artists start just like that, as an obscure BC page.would argue bigger modern DS names like Quest Master or Deep Gonme drew some inspiration from his work
I want to make DS, but I'm not sure anymore. There are so many forgettable Bandcamp projects already, while the ’90s era actually had “sovl”.
>>128767991Make it for yourself. You think those nerds from the 90s ever thought those tapes they were making would ever get any acclaim decades later on that new internet thing?
>>128769525This. Be the "sovl" you wanna see anon! Also, today's rec (yes I'm gonna shill Frostgard again, can't help it's my favourite act) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_80ShwoDqXw
album of the day
>>128767991The greatest thing is that most of the critically acclaimed old-school dungeon synth albums were made by people who didn't even know that their style of music would later come to be called dungeon synth. There's a lesson to be taught in that.
>>128767982gnome in name or title = instant swipe left
>>128772204That clearly says Gonme, not gnome, retard.
>>128772273I did notice that, El Homo, thank you.
A diluted winter ambient album with a cold grinding pulse. I highly recommend it to all you gnomos. https://youtu.be/UzTqkmN79dU?si=ZwdIYPCqqb7p_CXD
Synth in name or title is even worse.
>>128772204>>>128773130agreed, it's unfathomable really, and proves that the artist is just a tourist and understands nothing, nor cares about what DS is. It's really very"cringe" as they say
>>128773130>>128773176correct. cant think of any examples off the top of my head, which just proves their short comings
>>128773243Synthosaurier Rex or something. Synth gnomo. There is a few. Never listened to any of them but I am still pretty sure I know exactly how it sounds.
l'album du jour
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XU0J4D0iyO0Favourite black metal project is done by this guy, so I may be a tiny bit biased, but I fucking love me some Forest Temple. OOS has his demos on a compilation, and I believe goato has his full length for sale, both as CDs.
>>128774553Forgot to say the final track on this is a particular favourite, but I can never really explain why lol.
Feels like it’s gonna be a dungeon synth and beers kinda of night. Excited just thinking about it.
>>128773114Really loved this. Thank you.
>>128774501What is this. Looks like godzilla
I have been enjoying this girls music all year https://youtu.be/cv-kXT45dJE?si=vn3r-CC3BmPQykTO
>>128778077https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0050766/
Does the Minecraft soundtrack count as Dungeon Synth? It has many of the similar electronic instruments that would be used in such music, and its really good too.
>put russian guitar music midis through a shitty game console soundfont and get tens of dollars on bandcampam i winning?
>>128780633sounds more worthwhile than my career
Really enjoying this one from this >>128666360 generous list of trve recs.https://dungeonlordrecords.bandcamp.com/album/izarren-aurkako-guda
>>128778367Yes. Yes that's it. I used to listen to punk rock bands like lynyrd skynyrd and plantera until i descovered dungeon synth while playing a game called zoo keeper. I was thrilled to descovered how big the genre was. My favorite dungeon synth is the soundtrack to susperia by goblin.
>>128774501The 2000s got very bizarre for dungeon synth.
Listening to Balders Død. There is really nothing to complain about. The right mindset is demanding but apart from that.
>>128783159What's the difference between Dauði Baldrs and Balders Død?
>>128783176The language.
>>128783176Balders Død is an rough or unmastered version if I'm not mistaken.
The difference is the added bonus tracks. Okay. Maybe those is worthy of complaint.
Apart from 3 bonus tracks. 2 dance music electronic tracks and one ambient. Apart from those the difference is that this is closer sounding to the original tape master.
Gonna shill this album because its always been one of my favorites since seeing it on here years ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ghMbL1z8ChM&pp=ygUXdGhlIHN1bW1lcmxhbmRzIGRlbW8gOTk%3DAlso please let me know what you think of my own attempts at DS: https://voca.ro/14LRBMQ1he7hGoing to see Atlantean Sword and Hole Dweller in concert tomorrow
>>128785262>Also please let me knowIt sounds nice. A bit too grid daw and not enough sovl. Good sound choice
>>128766092I Was There is dope, is ambient/Dungeon shit. Even have some stoner. I've been listening to it for weeksHere my favshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvEH2IyuHcohttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cocY1jgvAr8https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHFO3iwEdmY
>>128785783hmm you make a good point about it being too grid aligned. Appreciate you listening!
Seeing Mortiis and Wraith Knight in April, fuck yeah :D

>>128789730Thank you for your interest! I did this one>>128782037, Eternal Fear, and finished off with A Night in the Woods. Very comfy night.
Seasonal depression gen
post some dungeon blasssting synths
The Old Oak half of this split is really incredible. Very spooky yet still has that comfy old school dungeon synth feeling.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpIil1wTmpk
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L8LN0A5W-xs Tonight's spin!
Blasting.
>>128792978rare reptillian ds, nice
Any fans of sea synth?
>>128793255Sure. As long as you don't call it sea synth. These kinds of album sounds like runescape music with most channels redacted and reverb added to those kept. I think it sounds very good.
>>128795038Forgot link: https://youtu.be/56J-q3UofKg?si=EPvv1WJ-Q3CvzMNm
>>128767237Sleeping Green
>>128795038Is the RuneScape soundtrack the closest game soundtrack to being trve dungeon synth?
Is this the perfect DS album?!
>>128797501Closest to (((modern))) dungeon synth. I would say shadowgate nes ost for regular dungeon synth.
>Hole Dweller - With Dreams of HereafterWhile a bit distant from the dungeon sound (the synths used are very bright and 80s sounding) this record is full to the brim of amazing melodies that manage to evoke the fantasy feeling through sheer good composition. Basically every track is memorable in some way, and although the sound palette is kind of limited it never gets boring. The epitome of cozy.>Potions Of Eleanor - Eleanor... My BelovedA lush and modern album that integrates synths with strings and other acoustic elements for an introspective, soundtrack-like experience. There's a tragic tale written up on the bandcamp page that's comfy to read along with the music and also contributes to enhancing the atmosphere. The artist is compositionally skilled and the music is enjoyable, but sadly there was no particular moment that truly stood out for me, and I feel the sound could be more daring; I do look forward to giving it another chance though because I see the potential.>Atlantean Sword - IronmasterThis one really manages to be grandiose and epic. The production feels right, it's full and high quality without being too clean, and it just sounds very big. The atmosphere - very well crafted - is that of swordsmithing, hammering and fighting. There's some percussion here and there that sounds very metallic, like hits on an anvil, and the synths are deep and cavernous. Surely among my favorites from this chart so far.>Arcana Liturgia - The Return of the Mighty KingMedieval themed record about the mighty king Ulrich, featuring not-so-convincing voice narration and - at times lackluster - synth playing. It's very amateurish but it manages to be fun and the longer tracks work well.>Fimnur - The Crescent CodexNot very dungeony to be honest, it's mostly just noodling on modular synths. It sounds comfy and electronic stuff like this resonates with me nicely, but it's not super memorable stuff.
>>128800586Bvsed review wizard!Running out of time to see if we'll get a Legendary Philosopher Elixir this year.

>>128800586>Elfen receiving the Cursed Goblin Poison ratingLiterally the best album on this entire calendar imo, strange how different the taste of even us DS fans can be>>128805945this looks absolutely peak, gonna listen asap
>>128766092Is he using the same synths as in Majora’s Mask https://youtu.be/iwGEOcmiK6c?si=9kfsSC0oYMvJBMDl
>>128806016Maybe, never thought about it before but there are some similarities for sure. Here's an album however, made with nothing but Zelda Soundfonts from Majora's Mask (which of course is also Ocarina of Time soundfonts) but also some Twilight Princess: https://youtu.be/jJksQabS6RE
>>128806052Haha I just thought that sounds a lot like Örnatorpet. Hel Ragnar!
>>128806260Hej! yeah it might do, I did use quite different synths for this one, but I guess it can still be recognised as my doing
>>128806269Great album!
>>128806290Thank you, my friend!
https://youtu.be/z4atlVE9THA?list=RDz4atlVE9THAPolish DS is just so good.Any recomMendations besides Wojnar, Perunvit and Uroczysko?
Fellow Anons, this game encapsulates the true sovl of Dungeon Synth. Just play it.
>>128797745I think its the best. I always come back to it.Recommendations for today: https://dungeontroll.bandcamp.com/album/the-resurrection-of-uzohrian-gloryhttps://skyhammermusic.bandcamp.com/album/the-long-night
Best way of making a dungeon synth cover?>A. Find an old painting and nuke the colors / crank contrast>B. Crop some random medieval manuscript illumination>C. Actually draw it yourself with pastels like a nerdWhich one actually looks good?
>>128807562you need to present examples of all.
>>128807562C for all new releases. Original music should have original art.B and C for compilations / splits. If the music is being repackaged, then it's fine to repackage art that fits the theme.
>>128807677whoops I meant A and B for compilations.
>>128806269Very cozy when the Swedes are around in the thread.
>>128807603I'm so lazy, here's two covers I like even though they're just reused paintings>>128807677That's quite a based take, I agree with you
>>128807942That Umbria one is very nice. Most would call this most known artist John Bauer. Among Dungeon Synth enjoyers he is better know as "Unknown" from the Crypt of the Wizard album.
Charming trve dungeon synth from 2000. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DzzG-rYr_Qc
Going to shill my album that i released earlier this year, would love to get some criticism: https://bardicwhispers.bandcamp.com/album/depths-of-eternity
>Kirkwood - Where Shadows LiePretty incredible link between the berlin school type of electronics and dungeon synth, it feels kind of crazy that this exists. Propulsive synth loops are stacked upon each other until they bloom into these intense, epic climaxes; the melodies are magic and suggestive, and the Tolkien influence is done very tastefully here. I do feel that the first half is a little bit stronger than the second, but as a whole it's such a massive and unique experience that it does not matter. Tracks like "Enchanted Stream" and "The White Rider" are simply breathtaking.>Daoine Sidhe - Daoine SidheOld-school demo. It's nice but it sounds kind of empty apart from the last track "Douar Nevez" which is great stuff.
>>128802373>>128804250You were right!>>128806000Nice trips. Sadly I found that record a bit too messy for my taste overall, but there were a couple of tracks that were good.
>>128808095>Unknownholy shit is this real? the cluelessness.. or the nerve? yikes either way
>>128811506Clueless most probably. I guess the record label rather than Håvard is to blame. It is impossible for a Scandinavian person not to know of John Bauer.
This has potentialhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQ3ZFjt4O1U
>>128809282Oh hell yea.
So I've been a dungeon synth fan for a long time, but I had never checked out Mortiis until only a few days ago since you guys were going on about how good Crypt of the Wizard is. And yeah I liked it but I need to give it another listen cause I think I was distracted at the time and don't remember much.
>>128812455Noted.
>>128809282Great stuff. I was surprised at how cheerful and pompous this was, judging by its cover art, project name etc. But I love that with older DS demos, how they can look so dark and obscure and then sound like an epic adventure
Just finished this one. Really beautiful and trve spirit, you'd think it's from 1998 not 2012.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9KdIHNtzNw
https://soundcloud.com/basilisktower/a-mist-ridden-vale-with-hungry-flowershttps://soundcloud.com/basilisktower/fields-of-shattered-stone-dungeon-synthI wrote some OC dungeon synth and I would love feedback on it from actual fans of the genre. It's so hard to get feedback from people who actually like DS. I use LMMS in case it matters. Any critique or advice would be really helpful. And if anyone else does their own DS I will listen to that as well. I love this genre.
>>128815964>Soundcloudfirst mistake right there m8, that's no place for DS. I unfortunately won't listen to it because they force me to make an account in order to do so. Put it up on Bandcamp and then we'll see
>>128816023>they force me to make an accountNot me, I can listen without one.
