Currently listening to PFM - Live In London 1975
>>128768146It's a crying shame. Prog nerds are so genre-autistic that they tend to dismiss any prog that has 0.0001% too much jazz influence as being jazz rock or fusion as if those are mutually exclusive with prog somehow. I can admit I'm guilty of similar thinking. One of my favorite things about prog is how it incorporates the music of the band's country. So of course American prog is going to be, on average, jazzier than British prog.
>>128768146The Muffins, Dave Newhouse, Rascal Reports, Motor Totemist Guild and 5uu's are almost never mentioned, which is a shame.
>>128767744Did these theads die?Anyhow, I finally listened to le furry porn album and those anons a while back weren't lying about this being some of the best stuff to come out of prog in the 2020s. You need to keep in mind that Magma disbanded in the 80s and the only reason they reformed in the 90s was because somebody offered them good money to get back together again and play a few shows. I don't think they were really serious about reviving the band for real until the 2000s.

Tarkus (the song) has some great ideas, but it goes on for too long and kind of falls apart in the endand the album itself is not that greatELP is very overrated, as far as prog acts go
>this version of Mekanik Destruktiw Kommandoh has way better vocals, drumming and is all around more than the studio album>the cut-off is that it doesn't really have any brass arrangements and the keyboard being prominent at some parts just sounds wrong and the climax doesn't hit as hardFeels bad man.The drums being mixed so low in the studio album is criminal given that Vander's drumming is half the appeal of Magma.

I do not care for Wish You Were Here. Most of the songs are very thinly sketched and languid with some of Roger's least interesting lyrics. Have a Cigar especially is just a failed remake of Money with really hackneyed commentary on the music business.

>>128817366>I bet none of the singers give a shit about kobaian. You are mistaken. Magma's vocalists are actually extremely committed to Kobaïan, Christian Vander treats the band as an esoteric order, new members are treated to a prolonged initiation, that includes Zeuhl mythology, Kobaïan phonology, and rhythmic discipline, ending in an esoteric occult ritual, involving chanting and invocation of Kobaïan energies to seal a spiritual bond.contrary to popular belief, Kobaïan is not an invention. Vander channeled Kobaïan through visionary states, recovering a sacred language predating all known human speech, carrying inherent archetypal power. performance demands gnostic surrender, apathy is impossible. Those who endure the rite cannot approach it lightly, the language exacts total devotion.
