are these cheap walmart guitars good to learn?
>>
>>128772334
Ask in the guitar general
>>
>>128772334
i don't know today's market but i'd say $86 is on the "asking for it" side
>>
>>128772334
You can probably find better ones on craigslist or by asking friends or something.
Shit, I've got like 3 guitars just sitting around in my family home. They kind of accumulate
>>
>>128772334
could prolly get something better on fb marketplace for cheaper desu. Also frankly learning on a shitty instrument makes you not want to learn. When i bought my second bass i played way more cus it wasnt a total piece of shit to play like my first. A good instrument makes you want to play it.

Finding a used Fender, Takamine, or Fender is pretty easy on Craigslist, I would say the minimum budget for something that isn't garbage is around $250.

You will hate playing and end up quitting if you start with a total POS. What area of the country are you in?

* or Yamaha

i can buy a new takamine but is it worth the 700 plus not knowing if i will actually use it, i just want to be able to play corridos tumbados on it, i never played any instrument but the mexican music has been addictive this past year
>>
>>128772374
i dont know much about guitars how does one know if a used one is good or not
>>
>>128772418
Honestly you should start on an electric. Lots of cheap options there and much easier to play.
>>
For that price point you would be better off looking at something like a used Yamaha F335.
>>
>>128772463
what is there to look for when buying used
>>
>>128772418
There is definitely a healthy medium between $89 and $700.. the guitars made of pressboard sound really flat, the frets are really poorly finished so you will hurt your hand moving up and down the neck, the strings are guaranteed to be awful (instead of just a strong chance of them being worn out) and the action will be so high you won't be able to effectively play higher up the neck.

I found this and it looks like a good guide for you:

>>128772463
This is good advice.
>>
>>128772418
anon i think there's like 614 numbers between 86 and 700. i would say the bare minimum for a new guitar to guarantee that it's playable is around $120, and it might even start sounding decent around $250-300.

thanx for the help

If you post where you are at I will look at listings in your neck of the woods, but these are some examples of what I was talking about from near me:

Solid Ibanez with a hardcase for $300:
https://portland.craigslist.org/yam/msg/d/mcminnville-ibanez-artwood-aw-100/7899111360.html

Super deal on Yamaha for $150:

san jose or anywhere around the area
>>
>>128772334
Electric guitars are preferred for beginner because the action is much lower so it's easier to play. A cheap electric is also less of a quality gamble than a cheap acoustic. You don't even need an amp, you can practice easily without one and if you can't make a lot of noise you can buy a cheap headphone amp.
>>
>>128772334
Absolutely.

Get one and try to have fun in your first few weeks, don't worry about anything else, just try to have as much fun as you can.
>>
>>128772334
you can get it cheaper
>>
>>128772334
I think for 20 or 30 bucks more you can buy a fender or yamaha off of amazon. You can also use offerup and check out what is in your area. Acoustics are cheaper than electric guitars and require less maintenance. You just need to change the strings and maybe the nuts or oil the fretboard. The only thing about offerup acoustics is that sometimes the action (tension) can be incredibly high and painful if you're a beginner and the action is unusually high for no apparent reason. The acoustic guitars can be 40 to 50 bucks, the strings are 10 bucks, the nuts can be 15 bucks, maybe buy a screwdriver that fits the little screws and it would still be under 100 bucks.
>>
>>128772334
Go to a pawnshop for a cheap guitar. That way you can have it in your hands to find the one that just feels right and sounds right to you (which matters).
>>
>>128772334
Looks fine to me. If $86 vs $300 is a huge difference for you, just buy it. I think these dorks are picky. Hendrix learned on a junkyard guitar.
>>
>>128773907
If anything cheap acoustics like this are good to learn if you're deadset on learning since you get the hand strength of learning on an acoustic and the basic are what matter. If you suck at guitar then you can be playing a decked out 5k guitar and still be shit but if you are good at it then you can make a cheap acoustic sound amazing. Acoustics really don't need much. Most of the time they just need a change of strings and maybe one nut is fucked up
>>
>>128772334
Probably fine. My first guitar was like 40 Euros. Expensive acoustic guitars are a scam.
>>
>>128772757
Go to a guitar center and try out the used guitars there. They are usually set up well with the action etc. If you get a shit walmart plywood piece of crap, it will literally hurt your fingers (make them bleed) because of metal sticking out and you'll end up quitting and/or paying more money to get it fixed to be playable
>>
>>128772757
It doesn't hurt to try offer up if you already haven't. If you have then disregard but offer up can have some good stuff if you are okay with used acoustics. Electric guitars are a different breed and you need to know what you're looking for and what you want.
>>
>>128772334
Do not fucking buy that worthless piece of shit.
>>
>>128772431
go to a guitar store in person and play a bunch of guitars. See what you like and dont, itll give you an idea of what to look for.
>>

These are good deals:

Yamaha with a hard case for $200:

Ibanez for $150:

If you see this before the thread closes I would just buy the $200 yamaha with the case and call it a day... you'll be happy for a long time.
>>
>>128772334
NO! DO NOT DO IT! My very first guitar was a cheapie and it got replaced REALLY FAST! TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY!

I'd buy a Washburn guitar as my first guitar. Preferrably with a cutaway up at the top end by the saddle (where the neck joins the guitar body) at the 12th fret.

Washburns are decent guitars with amazing sound quality. I have a classified ads website in my country called Kijiji and you can get really good guitars off there for like $150-200 CAD. People buy guitars all the time and they just sit there collecting dust. Guitar is hard anon to fully grasp. It's a lifetime hobby. Don't castrate yourself with a shitty guitar to start. You will hate it and never progress. Get a good brand. Washburn, Yamaha, Takamini, Ovation etc. The neck has to be STRAIGHT, not bowed. The tuning pegs have to keep the strings in tune. The string action (height) needs to be low enough to not buzz on the frets but high enough to be easily playable. Walmart guitars don't give one flying fuck about this stuff, just your money.

There are many many reasons to go with a good quality brand. I am telling you from experience, you will be happy with a Washburn guitar. It has really bright sound and plays well. It is set up well. They don't use cheap wood or cheap tuners or cheap breakable nuts or pegs.

You get what you pay for...Ideally $200-300 you will get a good mid range guitar if you shop carefully. Upwards of $500 you start getting into pro level...try them at a music store, you'll see and hear the difference.

Volume and projection are the things I care about most in a guitar brand. Playability too obviously. Cost is the 3rd component. Find a nice balance between all three. Washburn guitars are that perfect mixture.

Shit I meant the heel not the saddle...duh, saddle is where the strings attach to the soundboard on the front of the guitar...I'm typing too fast to think straight.
