>>128806650I don't hate any music I don't like in the same insecure nerdy way you get on this site, but theres a few reasons they don't do work for meI think I stole this take from Killbot&GorGorAttack but Bolt Thrower songwriting has the ACDC thing where every song is the same and possibly the Sgt. Peppers thing where every song is the same structure though I don't remember. Since I was 15, Bolt Thrower has always represented the apex of mediocrity in death metal songwriting to me. I'm very sensitive to when riffs feel like unnecessary filler the older I get as well. I listened to Nespithe this week because I keep seeing nerds put Demilich above Incantation, it felt like they could cut 80% of the death metal riffs and have a decent deathgrind EP. Every fucking riff was four fucking bars for no fucking reason. So I expect Bolt Thrower to have a lot of riffs that don't sit right with me. I always liked The Killchain though. I relistened to it just now and it does definitely feel like a padded song.Anthrax was always the weird one out of the Big Four and I never liked them but it's been almost ten years since I tried to seriously get into them. I don't actually remember very well but I'm sure they weren't doing the usual thrash songwriting I wanted to hear at the time. I think the vocals were a problem for me. They also might have been too punky, I have never been a crossover guy although I used to like DRI. Realistically I would have to listen to both to reevaluate my feelings but I would be surprised if I liked either>>128806579erm its called being the change you want to see... try it some time chuddy>>128811254I'll save these>>128805940can you point out what you prefer about How to Leave Town compared to other Car Seat Headrest albums? >>128812423>when riffs feel like unnecessary fillerThat's metal for you
>>128812449do you not like ska or something? i dont know much about it either.. just wondering lol
>>128813211filler varies from scene to scene but ultimately its a trait that metal inherited from rock music and popular music in general. most albums were rife with filler until spotify started punishing albums in the algorithm for skipped songs. the worst filler is from scenes that experienced a rapid explosion and gold rush period like florida death metal in the 90s when they were just signing anyone with long hair and guitars>>128814438a couple guys posted ska charts last time and I didn't know literally any of the music, usually I recognize just one album at least. there aren't that many genres where I can't name a single artist but ska is one. normally I'd be somewhat impressed when I can't identify any of the picks, not so much if its ska

>>128812423I'll admit that Bolt Thrower's songwriting is nothing groundbreaking but their riffage is legendary. Even then, some of their songs have really cool composition (For Victory, World Eater, When Cannons Fade)Also yeah The Killchain is kinda mid. >>128821586but what about the music? you connected differently because its sonically different, my question is about the relationship between the music and your reaction to it. >>128816896yea i should have listened to that venetian snares album ages ago, I've liked hajnal for a very long time.
