Go. MIDI is still king you know.
>>
>how do I choose a DAW?
Don't, get an old MPC.

>what VSTs do I need?
Don't bother, just start with mid-90s or newer sound module.

>how do I... ugh?
Just ask it's cool.

If you're a guitar and singing person you probably only need the most very basic multi track recorders, which have been around for decades and cost maybe $50 used. Like a band, there's no need to even muck with MIDI. If you're a bedroom producer you might be MIDI based in which case there is no need for a multi track recorder, you should be looking for a sequencer you can use easily. The MPC is really the best because you can go into and out of record mode without stopping the playback. It's actually really rare to find this feature in other sequencers. And it is really essential for using the sequencer as a free-form recorder. MPC is also great because you can just hit the UNDO button and go back. Multiple times. With the Roland or Yamaha sequencers this is a separate mode in the sequencer "app" and it takes some clicking. On the MPC it's one button press.

If you aren't MPC pilled your music is suffering, seriously.

isn't it what /prod/ is?

>metal bass that you can hear
i've heard this is a scam. what are your thoughts on this?
>>
Does anyone actually uses MIDI 2.0 for anything?
>>
>>128803625
No nor MPE. They are just worth ignoring.

>oh but you only get 128 levels of stepping on your MIDI CC's and that's no enough!
>>
i had the mpc one for a couple months it was ok. i don’t really see the advantage to that as a standalone device over something like ableton note on an ipad.

worst advice ever.

go search on kohle audio kult YouTube channel. You can see/hear how he gets it in a mix. Whether it needs to be forward in the mix or not depends on the song.
>>
hey home studio anon.
good to see you still baking the threads. i'm still working on finishing my shitty crabcore concept album about purgatory. worked on some vocals today. i feel better about the song overall, but i still need to re-work a lot of the lyrics. only 2 or 3 more songs need vocal re-writes, then it's done. gonna have a bitchin' phil collins cover as well

MPC is superior to your gay ass VSTs and DAWs.

>>128804867
Great job today I was playing with making non-self-resonant filters self-resonant though extreme oscillator terror.

Sometimes just playing with sound is even more fun than music.

I downloaded Fruit Loops back in 1999. At some point I'm going to make some phat beats. Just you watch

well good luck getting your mpc repaired for less than $500 when the pads crap out or the screen stops being responsive.

Replacement parts are pretty cheap.

Can you poast any of the banging waxers made in said home studio for our explicit enjoyment?

This is a fun cope, haven't seen this one from you VST/DAW shills yet.

>w-well uhhh, have fun when it breaks!

Fuckin jeet lol.
>>
>>128810768
in addition to mediocre build, the mpc simply isn’t fun to use. the effects sound like a corndog, and you can do more complex synthesis using caustic and audacity.
>>

I hate the MPC workflow for making full songs but I do like most of what it can do.

I just use it as my sequencer because it supports class-compliant USB MIDI interfaces, so I have 9 MIDI IN and OUT ports. I have an MPC2000 and an XL, and was hitting the limit with those plus some devices are impossible to use with anything on the same port, like the MC-303 or the MT-32.

I could spend like $3000 for an MPC3000 which has 2 in's and 4 out's.

I don't even use it as a sampler actually. Just as a sequencer.

Most all hardware sequencers work by building up a song from patterns. To me it seems pretty natural. But yeah you either like it for that or not.

So far over the years, I've used a cheap portastudio to record my ideas or friends bands, then I moved on to a focusrite USB interface and a couple of mixers. I am currently looking for a USB interface mixer that can record multi-channels as part of a more mobile setup, but it seems impossible to find not to mention pricey [though I can always buy used from a pawn shop].
