historically it's ""important"" because they took the jazz-ish post-rocky slowcore Chicago sound (Tortoise, C-Clamp, Sea and Cake, Piglet, etc) and made it a little more accessible with straightforward emotion and indie rock elements. the guitarwork is fun for the nerds and it's got pretty chords. i can see thinking it's idiosyncratic or boring but i can't understand not seeing why it's not popular lol you're not really this dense right
