Yungblud appeared on Howard Stern‘s SiriusXM show on Monday, and refuted the radio host’s feeling that “rock is dead” by listing off a number of bands that are carrying the music genre’s proverbial torch at the moment.
Yungblud countered Stern by saying, “Rock music is so brilliant in it gets its flowers in hindsight because it’s such a sacred genre. Every dad says, ‘I don’t like that band, it sounds like (a band that they knew as a kid).'”
He continued, “Rock music is coming back at the minute. People always put so much pressure on one person bringing it back: ‘Who’s gonna save rock ‘n’ roll?’ That’s a load of bullshit.”
The UK singer then named a bunch of bands in various rock subgenres who are thriving right now: “In hardcore, you’ve got Knocked Loose and Turnstile; and punk you’ve got Amyl and the Sniffers and Lambrini Girls; and indie you’ve got Fontaines [D.C.] and Geese and Wunderhorse.”
>>
they want to make yungblud a thing so bad but it will never happen
>>
I'm so tired of people naming literal who bands as proof that rock isn't dying. Like, ok there are a few bands making new music, but it's never going to be a culturally relevant genre ever again.
>>
>literal who names off literal whos
>"see guise, rock isn't dead!"
Besides. Rock was perfected and solved in the 70s so who gives a shit if it's dead or not
>>
>>128833939
I'm tired of rock fans being desparate for mainstream validation, who cares if its culturally relevant?
>>
>>128834085
because I'm tired of having to listen to old stuff since nothing good has come out in 15+ years. Having it culturally relevant means more people will make music for it, and you get better output.

Country music has new stuff coming out all the time that people get excited over and I miss that for rock.
>>
>>128833939
as an artform it just hasn't evolved at all. 50's rock sounded different than 60's rock sounded different from 70s, 80s, 90s. All of the "new rock" now sounds identical to shit from 2006 to me. Like WWE payperview themesongs.
>>
>>128834107
Like you said, rock music is coming out, it’s just not mainstream, but then who cares what normie cattle are into
>>
>>128834148
it's not mainstream because it sucks.
>>
>>128834221
There was a great honnybarna record this year, and a fairly good record by thee oh sees, and two really good albums by the psychedelic porn crumpets. It sounds like you can’t enjoy music unless normalfaggots are glazing it, that sounds like entirely your problem, just stop with the whining as if anyone else cares.
>>
>>128834293
every band you listed is at least 10 years old.
>>
>>128833901
>The UK singer then named a bunch of bands in various rock subgenres who are thriving right now
being total unknowns and not selling any music is thriving? back in the day bands would be everywhere thanks to radio and mtv
>>
>>128833939
it's becoming like jazz in that way. plenty of current jazz artists doing their thing, you could never say the genre is "dead," but it has zero relevance or mainstream appeal
>>
>>128833901
If rock isn't dead, it should be easy to answer the question "What is the sound of the 2020s?". Rock has been fractured into a bunch of little cargo cults trying to revive 20th century genres. There is no prevailing sound or trend that typifies the moment we're living in
>>
The only rock band left that isnt
>edgy shit
>depressing shit
>look how cool the devil is shit
>emo because society shit
>played on tiktok edits for "vibes"
>>
>>128835325
But it is mediocre pub rock that fails to advance rock music or bring to it any new ideas
>>
>>128834107
County music fucking sucks.
>>
>>128835339
>but ackshually it isnt doing this technical music industry shit
We need more pub rock. Not rock about how edgy something is, or how sad you feel after break ups and drugs or how government does anything or some retarded goth vibes about the devil and bats or some shit. Its all just larping.
>>
>>128833901
rock might not be dead, but it sure as fuck sold out. JUST LIKE HOWARD STERN.

stop being a huge fag and start being like Metal. Metal doesn't care about going mainstream they just make music and enjoy it. If they make something that gets popular then it does and done. It is what it is.
>>
>>128838465
>favorite artists include Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga and Radiohead
Grim.
>>
>>128837528
I find it hard to believe someone above the age of 15 would make a post like this
>>
anons itt:
>thing is only "alive" if it's pop
>>
>does another Ozzy changes tribute
He should change his name to yungozzybatblud
>>
>>128838803
okay so name good current rock that is not popular.
>>
>>128838803
99% of people aren't turbohipsters, if none of the new rock bands appeal to them then yes rock is dead culturally, just like classical or jazz is
>>
>>128841303
to be fair, olivia rodrigo has had pretty good success with what basically amounts to pop rock or pop punk
>>
>>128838714
Likewise
>>
>>128835246
Unironically, it's Deftones. Post-pandemic is the era where they inexplicably got super popular with daddy issue baddies. It's like God smiled upon us tall 40 year olds.
>>
STOP HATING ON THE ROCK GOD
HE'S THE MOST AUTHENTIC PUNK IN ROCK HISTORY
STRAIGHT FROM THE GUTTER
>>
>>128833901
None of these bands are good.

>>128834107
This makes no sense. Genres don't have to be culturally relevant for anything you said. Just admit that you're a shallow dumbass and want it to be "cool" so you can be part of a zeitgeist.

>>128835246
What is the prevailing sound of any genre recently outside of rap and pop? Is every genre dead to you idiots?
>>
>>128841385
her 2nd album was indeed rock but it kinda flopped, in any case there are definitely pop-rock hits (Benson Boone...etc) but no "real" rock in the mainstream or even semi-mainstream
>>
Why are they marketing this kid to boomers who listen to Howard Stern and Aerosmith?
>>
>>128844534
Did you not watch his Ozzy tribute song? He's the next Ozzy.
>>
Oyoyoy
>>
>>128833901
cant decide if hes more of a vulture or parasite
>>
>>128844534
they tried to market him to young people and it failed, reminder he started as a rapper
