They peaked at Only by the Night with radio hits like "Use Somebody", "Sex on Fire", and "Closer".
Seemingly, KoL were never able to recover because they switched up their sound completely.

My question is why, at the peak of their popularity, did they change their sound to country/rock and kill the hype?

edit: meant to write country-rock

idk they seemed to just do what they wanted. as commercial as they were, i don't think they really expected to get as big as they did with those two singles from only the night.

their hype was gonna die down anyways because their sound wasn't going to sustain mainstream success. They lucked out with their 2 big hits and weren't going to replicate that no matter how hard they tried.
