And why is it Frank Zappa?
>>
>>128862040
it wasn't him. he was the best guitar soloist of the 20th century and that is good enough.
>>
>>128862040
he was incredibly talented, but his actual attempts at contemporary classical kind of sucked
>>
>>128862040
Frank shot a man in Reno just to hear him fart
>>
>>128862040
lol, no.
he actually got worse and worse with age
>>
>>128862040
Vaughan Williams, what are you retarded?
>>
>>128862040
The thing is, do you know any composer of the 20th century apart from him? Who are they? Why do you dislike them and which pieces do you dislike?
>>
>>128862040
surely the composers affinity for tuplets and suspended chords is as valid a measure as anything else

What does contemporary even mean in this context? Stravinsky? Varese? Stockhausen?
Xenakis?

>Vaughan Williams,
Thanks for the recommendation. I am listening now, but did he do anything funky?

>Why do you dislike them and which pieces do you dislike?
It's not a matter of "dislike". I contend that Zappa is the most well-rounded composer, offering a library of works that covers damn-near every genre of temporal relevance, executed with sufficient skill as to be palatable to a wider audience that would otherwise not care.
I know of no other composer from the 20th-century who came close to his breadth.

i mean his actual attempts at actual classical music, it ranges from ok to really bad
>>

I don't understand what that means without a basis for comparison. What is another composer's work who is "ok" in your estimation? I'd like to compare it against Zappa's "ok" work. Then maybe I would understand what you mean by "bad".

>citing LSO vol 1 instead of yellow shark when criticizing franks contemporary classical
bad faith, even Frank said the LSO sucked and didn’t really wanna play his music, it was enough to just get them to record it.

Great composer picks anon. Also Nikolai Medtner is a great composer from this era that people should check out. I especially like his Sonatas and Skazki pieces.

LOL
>>128863236
If we're going to count guys like Debussy who died in 1918, we might as well include Scriabin and Fauré. Koechlin and Poulenc are also fantastic, and like >>128865409 said, Medtner is a good shout, but I'd also like to point out that Rachmaninoff's Etudes-Tableaux are one of the greatest sets of solo piano works ever.
