If there are no real advantages vinyl has over digital then why does the format even still exist? Is it just a giant meme?

A record won't dematerialize from your shelf because of licensing issues. The disc itself won't become corrupted and unsalvageable because of no particular reason at all like modern electronics that all fail after 10 years.

There is no verified evidence that Spotify offers AI-curated playlists with content explicitly promoting "sissyhypno" or political messages such as “vote Democrat.” Spotify’s AI and algorithmic playlists generally focus on music recommendations based on your listening habits, mood, and genre preferences.
Claims about embedded political messaging or highly specific fetish content are not supported by Spotify’s publicly documented features. Spotify does allow user-created playlists, so someone could technically make a playlist with any content, but these are not official AI-generated recommendations.
If you want, I can explain exactly how Spotify’s AI and recommendation algorithms work, including what content it is designed to prioritize and filter. Do you want me to break that down?

People like the noise the record adds, same reason some people like listening to cassette tapes.

You could also do that by buying a CD, which is an objectively superior format for sound reproduction.

Nostalgia. That's it.

Why people want to travel to Paris to see the eiffel tower ?, why can't they just see it through their monitor ?. having an album, for some, is like collecting historical artifacts/antiques, and gives a sense of ownership/connection.

Just listen to a fucking vinyl rip of a good record with a good pressing then ask for the deletion of this thread.

The RIAA curve means you're just listening to a over processed medium anyway.

I have a few CDs from the early 80s with disc rot. They still play fine. The data is pressed into the plastic not the metal. Any CD player that can play that transparent Lorde CD should be able to play disc rotted CDs.

>RIAA curve
Literally lossy compression. Vinyl is basically a primitive form of MP3.

People who buy vinyl don't care about the sound and i'd wager 95% don't even listen to the album. The main reason is you get a big piece of album art. Really they could just sell a cardboard sleeve for the same effect

It should also be noted that analog media degrades at a far faster rate.

Thats all you have to know
Its just collector / fanboy behavior

I barely pay money for music, so, if I do, it means I'm paying for an album that I really really like. I don't want to pay for a digital download because that's bullshit. I could buy a CD but nowadays everything is discless, so I can only play CDs in a small TV in my room or the PlayStation, which means I'd listen to the music through shitty TV speakers. But I also have my dad's old turntable connected to his high quality speakers, so that's my best option for listening to my favorite music. Also I like owning the physical album, and I like looking at the art, so I may as well get the bigger format. And yes, also the ritual of the vinyl. Putting a vinyl in a turntable and watching the needle drop and the disc rotate is simply more aesthetic and comfy than inserting a CD or streaming a song. I also prefer books to Ebooks, I hate smartwatches etc etc etc
