+2020 feels like Japan are the only ones making good music. Such a sad state of affairs for the West but it is what it is.

>>

the rainbow and grass, yeah its an AI like hallucination of mine, it got that vibe. its not even obscure but japs insist on naming their bands with the most forgettable names ever.

Not Japanese Alt Rock but it's a song from Masashi Hamauzu's band and I love his compositional style and sus chord mastery:

To me, the Japanese are honorary Aryans.

I feel like I've seen such a cover from a japanese shoegaze/alt-rock band, but I can't think of it either. maybe you're being mandela affected by the government and you're just thinking of The Rainbow Goblins. perhaps not though. it's also not rock, but at the very least perhaps an anon here would still appreciate it (given that we're talking about Japanese music).

no, its a 2001 circa jap shoegaze. id remember if i got hypno'd. its for me also the closest someone got to the Loveless sound, but i forgot the name lol.

>>

I saw them live in October. Was a great performance and felt really cool to finally experience this after being introduced to them all the way back when I first started browsing /mu/ in like 2010 or so

No point listening to number girl unless it's live.
And both Hisako and Mukai made way better stuff after the band broke up.
>>
Rin Toshite Shigure / Ling Tosite Sigure whatever, becoming some bullshit anime opening band hurt.
Like I was legit hurt. I understand wanting money, but it still sucked.

Their guitarist is so badass. How did they sound live?

They are more interested with studying Western Instrumental music than Lyrical, so they actually git gud.
>>
>>128891422
incredible.
I'm not an expert on this because I don't go to a lot of live shows but to me the sound was in no way far off from the recordings. Especially impressed by her singing still sounding so similar.
>>
>>128891693
They're not smaller than California and they're an archipelago with thousands of islands.
>>
>>128891942
Those pics Yelyah uploaded are suspicious btw hint that she possibly recorded a full MV for her channel I suspect the Team Zissou song.

>>
>>128889967
I agree with the point, but all the good shit you posted is ancient in relative terms and much more popular globally than domestically in Japan. It took until the First Take video for a ton of JP to even find out who toe is
>kinoku teikoku - 2012
>toe - 2006
>boredoms - 1999
>coaltar of the deepes - 2000

There's so much overproduced Japanese crap that doesn't come close to what you posted. Most of the good artists are much older, younger 2015+ tends to be too superficial, polished, and larpy for me. Like they learned a "punk" or math rock attitude in a textbook way and don't actually feel or live that life, it's a performance.
2010-2012 is the dividing point for me of the West completely falling when it comes to interesting rock music being made by more than a few token good bands.
>>
>>128889672
bump
>>
>>128893111
You're right. There's a reason why most of these bands mentioned are more popular overseas than in Japan. They are have shit taste tbqh. The majority of Modern alternative Jrock is too melodramatic, too polished and formulaic, it feels like these songs were made for a shonen anime in mind.

>>128895642

Felt similarly when I saw them in 2024. Never thought I'd have a chance to see them since I became a fan right around the time they originally broke up.
That said it was pretty funny to see how the entire venue felt electrified and moved like crazy when they played their old stuff but their newer songs only really hit with the younger people in the audience.
