It's hard to pick an album but I think you can trace the evolution of hip hop from the 2000s to the 2010s sound through a lineage that looks something like Kanye > Drake > Chief Keef > Future > Young Thug > Lil Peep.

eccojams and farside virtual were far superior entries into this new vague microgenre of hypnagogic music at the time. it didnt have a clear, set sonic aesthetic nor intellectual aesthetic unlike this one that flanderised it. you might think its ridiculous for me to claim that as it was released very shortly after eccojams and farside, but microgenres lived fast and died fast back then. i'd say that New Life Deluxe's reecord was the last interesting thing that happened within "vaporwave" and macintosh plus and saint pepsi and shit ruined it all. i still find it utterly unreal how many millions of views vaporwave shit has considering how incredible small it was back in 2010 and 2011. i remember it distinctly and videos would often only have views in the triple or quadruple digits.
