why is there so much live/rehearsal material recorded throughout all of nirvanas career? most bands from that era who made it big have only a handful of demo recordings and almost no early shows. it seems like everything from nirvana has been out for a long time now.

They rehearsed a shitton during the Bleach era and they got a cult following early on

You could record in digital in the late 80s. Became easier and cheaper to record all rehearsals
>>
A couple reasons
>kurt cobain was autistic and obsessed with recording audio since he was a kid
>he and they did so many demos, and he would keep tweaking songs over and over for years, there’s like 5 different versions of Sappy which was not really officially released except I guess on the No Alternative compilation
>supposedly they were big as an underground band before nevermind so people were recording shows, bootlegs of this were released and then because they got so huge, people wanted more, so lots of bootlegs were released like outcesticide and stuff like that
>he died so they have milked basically any recording he ever did even him just fucking noodling on the guitar on the montage of heck soundtrack

There is bound to be more Nirvana material out there because interest has stayed massive for 30+ years. Few stones remain unturned. livenirvana.com is one of the most comprehensive fan sites of all time, check it out some time. Conversely, no one gives a fuck about Naked Raygun rehearsal tapes, and they probably didn't keep any in the long run.

Cobain was a keen student of rock history and, despite what he tried to project in the media, incredibly exacting and ambitious. Which might go some way toward explaining their later success... I know this comes as a shock to zoomers, but you had to have determination and graft back in those days. You couldn't just sit around and wait for your cool new single to get picked up by Tiktok or a Spotify mood playlist.

Nonsense. If fucking Nirvana didn't have an "organic rise" then please, tell the folks at home who actually did.

It's true. They rehearsed for 8+ hours every day, not counting the time when Cobain played acoustics at home and wrote poetry. He consciously created the image of a person who did not care about anything, and at the same time he obsessively studied the music scene around him and all his competitors, all his life he kept diaries, where he described all aspects of recording, up to the placement of microphones.

I mean dude ate a shotgun shell so people would still be talking about his shit band 30 years later.
