Bona-fide kino pop music. Is there anything similarly accessible while being culturally eclectic and interesting sonically? I find the big Kate inspired artists Bjork and Grimes to be trite and grating, less genuinely talented.

Shocked no one has said Akiko Yano yet, her late 70’s and early 80’s work is incredible. She has an extremely similar voice to bush and made a lot of prog pop/synth pop/art pop whatever you want to call it. Gohan ga dekitayo is my favorite but if you don’t want to commit to a double album go listen to iroha ni konpeito
