is there any humanly audible difference between 16bit flac and 24bit flac? I feel like there isn't much. I don't want to waste so much storage for an iota of difference in audio quality
for listening on consumer hardware no, i imagine that kind of difference is only helpful on huge systems like at concert venues and shit
>>128947726you sound like a poor mp3 man
>>128947726No. 24bit is designed for production (i.e. you aren’t done making something), 16bit for delivery (i.e. you are listening to it), even high end systems struggle to reproduce 20bits, and most electronics only get up to 15
>>128947781well, i do come from mp3 but try to maintain some flac now. no need for hostility
>>12894772616bit gives you 96dB of dynamic range, and that's even without noise-shaped dither that increases perceived dynamic range another 20dB or so. Your listening room noise floor is unlikely to be below 25dB(A), so 16bit is plenty to cause instant hearing damage if you turn it up loud enough to hear the quantization noise.>>128947815Correct.
I have deafening tinnitus, all music sounds low quality to me.
vinyl rips
>>128949328Vinyl is equivalent to about 12 bits.

I think it only makes a noticeable difference at loud volumes
>tfw 320 vs flac is not very clear to the earI hate this choice so much. But I will start saving music as flac. Actually it will force me to not hoard useless music and keep only the best of the best stuff because of space.
>>128947726Not only can I tell the difference between 320kb mp3 and flac (16bit) on my equipment, I can EASILY tell the difference between 24 bit flac and 16 bit flac. If you can't then you either don't know what to look for or have shit hearing
