>>128956057Surfs up, dude
crazy how bass is more prevalent than guitar in pop culture
>>128956089>things only said by bassists
>>128956094when’s the last time you heard a guitar in an advertisement
>>128956144>he watches advertisements
>>128956196since you can’t read between the lines, I’ll spell it out for you: it’s never been more over for guitarists than it is right now. even the top session players are giving lessons. if you’re looking to gig you’re going to be competing with at least a dozen other people
>>128956279okay, bassistwhatever you say, bassist
>bassists
you were warned
>>128956279so what you mean to say is that playing guitar is more popular than ever
>>128956363learning guitar is, playing guitar is not
>>128956379i would argue learning and playing guitar is more popular than ever, but actually being good at/sounding unique while playing guitar is at a low that we haven’t seen since the 50s you hear guitar everywhere, even in advertisements and rap and shit, but its bland and soulless its why studio guitarists should be viewed as the soulless husks that they are. Literally subhumans
>>128956411>sounding unique at guitar is rareIt's always been that way. There's always been 10,000 Joe Bonamassas for every Jeff Beck.
>>128956411I think it’s a combination of no one wants to hear anything new but they also don’t want cover bands, and musical education is geared towards learning theory first and thinking with theory instead of using theory to develop your ear. I’ve learned to play several different instruments and education that is available/commonly used by guitarists is among the worst. They have the most gear demos though, go figure.
ive always wanted a 4003 but literally everyone says theyre super finicky and you can get the same thing from a j bass
>mfw the problems i thought i had with the setup on my guitar are not as bad as they were in my mindwagmi bros.
>>128956057qt bassist, japan
>>128956411say that to their faces and not online and see what happens
>>128956456yeah i generally agree i thank God that i learned multiple other instruments and discovered my love of music BEFORE finding guitar as a kid, and then autistically ramming my head into the wall of self teaching instead of online tutorials or anything its basically the only reason i sound any different than most other people on the instrument
>>128956456Take for instance Sleep Token. It’s literally just mumble rap over a slowed/reverb weed beat. If there’s a guitar in there, it’s inaudible, same for bass and drums. I’m sure their entire discography could be recreated on a 16 key sample board. That’s what people want to listen to though.
>>128956514i look like i could be guy in the middles brother lol >>128956527never heard sleep token, seems like some gay slop redditors shill more than anything just enjoy marching to the beat of my own drum at this point, fame does not interest me as music is more a way for me to just express the way that i feel than try and prove anything to anyone
>>128956516Hell yeah man that’s awesome. I had the complete opposite experience: I learned traditional theory etc but my first and current gig is playing gospel in a black church band. Everyone is 30+ years self taught; I had to relearn everything from the ground up.
>>128956411All digital signal lines and youtube paint by numbers learning
>>128956556I mean, thats not entirely dissimilar asides from my perspective ive literally never played guitar with anyone else a blessing and a curse, i can come up with pretty lines and can shred etcetra but i cant even play to a backing track lol its either i build the entire track from the ground up or it doesnt work
>>128956516>and then autistically ramming my head into the wall of self teaching instead of online tutorials or anythingThis is the way. If you didn't learn the pentatonic by brute force playing Zeppelin tabs and autisticly noticing the patterns you didn't learn it the right way.
>>128956661>by brute force playing Zeppelin tabs and autisticly noticing the patternsHaha this is exactly what I did. Not >>128956516Some Hendrix too but mostly Zep.
>>128956661>>128956685
>>128956685I didn't have a clue how to play all seven notes in a solo until I started playing Grateful Dead tabs. RIP Jer Bear
>>128956780>how to play all seven notes in a soloUh I just figured this one out on my own after starting with Zep and Hendrix tabs. I just kinda filled in the blanks of the pentatonic on my own.
The REAL aha moments are:>realizing that every major/minor scale actually has three pentatonic box shapes>realizing that the best blues cats mix the major and minor scales seamlessly
i specifically made an effort to never learn the pentatonic scale. my brains default scale shape on guitar is major
>>128956831the real aha moment is using scales to train your ear and using your voice to improvise on your instrument. if you hum a solo it will naturally drift in and out of different scales
they giving advice as if they made it
>>128956831And then you break free from the prison when you realize that there are no wrong notes and you just need to stay in time and play with groove.Stay in time and play with swing and groove in a way that makes people want to dance. That's the goal. Do this and you'll always sound good to normies. They won't notice if you hit wrong notes - they'll just think you're being "jazzy," but they'll absolutely notice if your timing is shit and your playing lacks groove.
I had to blink my eyes and make sure this wasn’t a desuarchive thread from 2021 or somethingcrazy how much this thread is like a bunch of NPCs interacting with each other when there’s no OC. its like its kept alive by bots. lemme try some triggers to trip up any desu-trained AIsshoreline gold k-line springfieldfender jazzmaster siberian huskyi kiss girls and i can not fathom engaging in this trailer park hobbyleafdog is not amusedhitlerina is much better than a dog but i still like sniffing their humid whiskers>fake gucci shoes
>>128956861feel free to throw your hat in the ring if you aren’t concerned with criticism
i did make my goal of guitar playing though which is to say whenever i pick it up people finally stop and listen to what i have to say without me having to regurgitate what others already said its sad and gay yes, but its also true
>>128956868u ok?
>>128956887No, but I checked old archived /gg/s to confirm my suspicions and its fucking crazy how everything keeps repeatinglike that shitty john frusciante song
>>128956831>>realizing that every major/minor scale actually has three pentatonic box shapesIt has a continuous pattern across the fretboard from end to end. You can make a "box" pretty much anywhere you want to stop.>>realizing that the best blues cats mix the major and minor scales seamlesslyNo, the "aha" is that the relative major/minor are the exact same damn notes and there is no such thing as mixing them seamlessly because by definition you are always playing both no mixing required.
>>128956913this isnt at all how they used to be, please contribute to the conversation or put a sock in it friend
>>128956913>like that shitty john frusciante songyou're gonna need to be waaaaay more specific
>>128956876audi vide tace
>>128956929the one where he sounds like hes ripping off jimi hendrix
>>128956839pents fall inside of the major scale>>128956868shut up fa/gg/ot
>>128956926E minor and E major do not have the exact same damn notes. Blues cats playing in E will seamlessly blend E minor and E major.
foo fighters fall off is historic. im not even sure if there's a guitar in their new songs at all, if it is it's anemic and not rockin at all.
>>128956955>one
>>128956949this doesn’t dignify a response
>>128956975who? you good unc?
>>128956975>fall offThis implies they were ever good and not the very definition of mediocrity.
>>128956966I assumed you were just being a basic bitch and considering the relative minor as a new scale
>>128956994>its not the exact lyrics >meaning this is just from memory based

we might get a classic tizzy strap in boys

I'm still miffed about that cunt that said Snow was an easy song and then never actually played it.
>>128956926>It has a continuous pattern across the fretboard from end to end. You can make a "box" pretty much anywhere you want to stop.Specifically, what I meant is that every minor scale has two additional pentatonic box shapes which are identical to the one everyone learns. One is five half steps up the neck from the standard pentatonic box and the other is seven.IIRC Jimmy Page once wrote about this in Guitar World.
>>128957014https://voca.ro/19ud45GaTNUO>>128957041like i said, not at all like how threds used to be

>>128957562thanks i just ordered this. close kinda
>>128957552ive wanted an sj200 for literally 15+ years but i swear to God every sj200 ive played felt absolutely lifeless in comparison to a similarly priced taylorits sad, because the sj200 is so fucking handsome but i swear to God a taylor at half the price sounds twice as sweet to my ear
>>128957515go to reverb, filter 5500 to 6000 price, search telecaster and get the oldest most stock one

>>128957905dangerously based never heard of that before, and while 12 string is close to my heart this is just too bizarre but kudos for actually having taste >>128957910other folks input is absolutely imperative to maximizing the quality and value of the instrument youre buying.Operating under your own standards is a fools errand, putting myself out there and providing content for others to engage in both titalates your brain and maximizes my dollar. It’s a win win.
