Is it better to be a fan that is obsessed with everything a single artist has made (including the bad stuff) or just listen to the most acclaimed/bolded releases of an artist and move on?

>hi fellow MUSIC NERDS I just finished reorganizing the same 100 albums for the upteenth time!!! Praise me for my dogshit pleb taste!!!
Is it lost on people like this that it doesn't matter what order these things are in if there aren't any NEW albums to include? Tourists get the rope, they just want to feel included in something

As long as youre having fun with the hobby either is fine.
I personally love the exploration of music and more obscure deep cuts so I prefer the former, but if someone just wants to explore stuff like '1001 albums you must hear' then thats fine too.
Whatever makes you happy, do that. Other people should not decide your habits for you. That'd be an absolutely miserable way to live life.
>>
most of those albums suck anyway
>>
Just don't be a douche canoe about people enjoying the classics. Nirvana is consistently overrated among grunge bands, but theyre still great.

Liking music isn't a substitute for personality. Parents and peers should be encouraged to assault these kids, for the sake of forming a well-rounded human.

Why can't some faggots just LISTEN to music? Why does art always have to relate back to them? Bunch of autistic faggots.

To truly be ascended you must do both but yeah its kinda lame seeing no distinguishable taste and just a general collection of "all time great" albums as personal favorites. Its just another shade of conformity

It's not about getting deep into the genre necessarily, it's about understanding in depth what makes it unique and what it has to offer. And for that you need to listen to "a lot" of the albums of the genre or at least understand the historical context of its emergence.
It does makes sense if you switch from techno to idm to ambient techno, but just picking an aphex twin album out of context is not actually appreciating it

RYM is dogshit at recommending great music, ever since I joined over 3 months ago, sonemic has not recommend to me 1 single album that actually went on to become a favorite, you need to have low standards/be easy to please, for it to sometimes be worth shit. I'm starting to think there are ~100-150 great albums, the other 50k+ are all mediocre. Also, rymcore (top 200) is mostly crap.

theres levels to genre tourism, the genre tourism in that picture cant be real right??
>>
>check out acclaimed albums
>find one you like
>check the other acclaimed albums by that band
>like them
>listen to the rest of their discography, while admittedly not giving their poorly rate albums anywhere near the level of lenience you give the highly rated ones

seems pretty simple. i can't understand loving an album and not at least giving another album by the same band a shot.

Let's all post our own top 100, so we can see how pleb we are, and how much in common our charts have.
