>>128975797Nice anon, I didn't know Dave Grusin made normal straight ahead jazz early on. I only know him and his brother as the owners of GRP records, the smooth jazz/fusion label that had the Rippingtons and a billion more. I'll share my smooth jazz collection if anons care. Dave Grusin was the producer for this album. Kim Pensyl did all the instrumentation himself I guess. It's very evocative of 1992 contemporary jazz, incorporating some of the popular and R&B styles commonly found then.https://www.discogs.com/master/573348-Kim-Pensyl-3-Day-Weekendhttps://files.catbox.moe/unzmgo.zip
Urszula Dudziak - Ulla (1982)https://www.discogs.com/release/2579444-Ulla-Ullahttps://files.catbox.moe/q8rvbt.zipMaybe the best jazz scat singer I've ever heard with a huge range. Lots of unintentionally funny noises. The 2nd song Papaya is funky as hell and I think anons ought to appreciate her.
Frank Potenza - Sand Dance (1986)https://www.discogs.com/master/2923999-Frank-Potenza-Sand-Dancehttps://files.catbox.moe/m5qb23.zipLate 80s smooth jazz guitarist that is one of my favorite albums of the time. It is pure shopping mall/grocery store music, especially the 2nd song 'Miki'. I like to listen to it while watching this guys youtube videos:https://yewtu.be/channel/UCaHs-DNd2wz55plJZDfUqug
Kayoko Ishu - Scat Elegans (1969)https://files.catbox.moe/oaijrj.zipJapanese jazz scat singer singing wonderful orchestral covers of popular music of the era in the same vein as the Seeburg library muzak.
Rob Mullins - 5th Gear (1988)Rob Mullins - Tokyo Nights (1990)https://www.discogs.com/master/556212-Rob-Mullins-5th-Gearhttps://www.discogs.com/master/1312716-Rob-Mullins-Tokyo-Nightshttps://files.catbox.moe/10a7id.ziphttps://files.catbox.moe/8boj0a.zipRob Mullins is an underappreciated jazz pianist who made 2 excellent smooth/contemporary albums as far as I know, 5th Gear and Tokyo Nights. He had a few songs used by The Weather Channel and performed with Wilton Felder but I don't think he's had much recognition otherwise. Maybe I'm just not aware but he deserves better. The songs 'Larry's Tune' and 'Jaco Does The Weather' are my favorites. Does Jaco refer to Pastorius? I don't know.
Trammell Starks - Music For Local Forecast, Disc 3 (1996)https://www.discogs.com/release/28763212-Trammell-Starks-Music-For-Local-Forecasthttps://files.catbox.moe/lu6ydb.zipSome of the most relaxing sleepy time jazz you will ever hear, tailor made for The Weather Channel when they commissioned composer Trammell Starks to write them a load of tunes to replace licensed smooth jazz like Kenny G and the Rippingtons.
Ray Obiedo - Iguana (1990)https://www.discogs.com/master/1122347-Ray-Obiedo-Iguanahttps://files.catbox.moe/hooq7z.zipReally nicely produced smooth jazz guitarist, definitely check out the song 'Werewolf'. It has a great beat and kinda sounds like a porn movie (similar to Kenny G's 'Tribeca').
oh share threadcool
Blessed thread
George Howard - Love And Understanding (1991)https://www.discogs.com/master/446720-George-Howard-Love-And-Understandinghttps://files.catbox.moe/qtoho8.zipSmooth jazz soprano saxophonist who died WAY before his time back in 1998. This album is hip and contemporary. You can tell from his rad sweater. It has R&B-esque vocals in the vein of Kenny G's material.
Dave Weckl - Master Plan (1990)https://www.discogs.com/master/246503-Dave-Weckl-Master-Planhttps://files.catbox.moe/gb2y9h.zipA GRP fusion/smooth jazz drummer who knows his shit. He played with Chick Corea's Akoustic and Elektrik bands apparently. My favorite song here is 'Garden Wall' which starts off sounding like the introduction to a morning talk show or wholesome sitcom. Then there's 'Island Magic' which sounds like I'm golfing at Pebble Beach with Epstein and friends.
