Why the fuck is metal so Kayfabe???????

>ooh le vocalist is le screaming
>ooh le guitars are drop B 8 strings
>ooh le mix is so sludgy

Seriously, why do fucking smelly losers think they are both "tough" and auteurs for partaking in this charade?

I'm talking everything from Billboard chart Hot Topic slop to dungeon synth

When I was a teen I loved garage rock, proto-punk, no wave, and 70s glam rock. I didn't really like metal because most of it was so conventional-sounding. It seemed ridiculous that they postured like they were so tough even though it was just straightforward rock music that even old industrial and no wave artists like SPK and DNA were more challenging than.

However, now most of what I listen to is metal. I dug through pretty much every major indie band from the 80s to the 2000s and there are a lot of great ones, but after that there's just not a whole lot of new stuff happening. There are still cool bands coming out of art punk and skramz, but that's about it. Metal has an incredible amount of sonic diversity and musicianship. I love the droning guitars and emotive vocals in death-doom, I love the passion in blackened crust, metal has must managed to stay so fresh. Where metal once felt overly conventional to me, it now feels like the most open-ended rock subgenre. And contrary to the tough guy posturing, I actually find the nerdyness of it really fun, the genre is so closely tied to horror and fantasy and I love its connections to other media and artistic outlets.

its always been this way, look at manowar, for a band of 'badasses' they project a feeling of desperation and insecurity by having multiple songs about heckin great metal is. Alot of metal kids are losers/dorks so when they find an insolating community with similar intrests they go all in. Dont want to project being a dork? Get a sick black label biker vest because it makes you think youll look like a biker badass before you go to your warhammer night with your bros.

The most beautiful thing about metal is that outsiders never gonna get it. You have to love it in order to understand it.
