Sly & The Family Stone – There's A Riot Goin' On

theres nothing else like this album, paranoid bleak and jaded funk. the way it was recorded gives the music a very unique texture

I listed to dozens of bands and albums today. Most of them were good or ok at a cursory listen, but were missing that extra special something, the distinct world of sound created by the album. I might just need some time and to revisit them

All of these I would consider at least good or ok at cursory listen and worth checking out
Current 93 - Thunder Perfect Mind. good but too barren and repetitive. might have to revisit it
ISIS - people keep saying this is the spiritual successor to neurosis and actually criticize them for being too similar, but the few tracks/bits of album I listened too had the angry metal part but not the weird/experimental stuff. Some of my favourite albums are like that though as you can see from the OP chart so I might just have to revisit.
The Ocean - Pelagial. idk Its good but doesn't have the weird/experimental/creepy stuff
Quiet Man - The starving Lesson. same as above
A Storm of Light - And We Wept the Black Ocean Within. Same as above
Jesu - Jesu. Same as above
Palms - Palms. Same as above
Nightwish - Once. Too bright and upbeat. Too opera. (still probably my immediate favourite, not really what im looking for but will probably relisten later on)
Devin Townsend - Ocean Machine. same as above

I guess I'm extremely difficult and picky with music. I'm actually depressed now thinking about how I might never find something as monumental as Times of Grace or Horse Rotorvator again. Neurosis has 2 modern albums I only listened to a little and they are at least ok so I guess I'll just listen to those for the time being.
