I have tried making music for 10 years. I have ~600 unfinished songs and 0 finished or even half-finished songs. I am unable to make a song.

To make the problem a little less daunting I have recently retreated to just trying to make light remixes of some popular songs (with or without stems). I cannot even manage this. They're all terrible. I work on a remix for 8, 10, 20 hours, I listen to it with fresh ears, it's awful, I work on it for 8 more hours, it's still awful, I scrap it before it even hits the 1:30 mark.

Why am I so bad at this.

Just fucking finish them. They are allowed to be shit.

they dont have to be finished. they just have to be published

Part of the issue is there is basically nothing to post. Do you want me to post like an 8-second clip I spent 30 hours on? That's pretty much the best I've got.

It's not even just that they're bad. They're in most cases, like, nothing. I cannot develop anything.

When I first started out 10 years ago I was a bit closer to actually completing some things and so they were more "really bad but at least it resembles a song". Now I'm at "not only bad but does not even resemble anything like a song".

There was a website where you could make little songs on a MIDI device thing (Roli Seaboard Block) and I uploaded like 80 loops there. I shared them with some friends and they all said they were all terrible. So I did "publish" some things at one point. Each one was about 6 - 10 seconds long and I couldn't even imagine to make anything remotely listenable for that duration.

Musician here with adhd and bad perfectionism lol. I have a folder of unfinished/half-finished projects too. Through it all, I have managed to upload/publish some albums to streaming or soundcloud. It's very important to remind yourself that it doesn't have to be perfect. You shouldn't be spending 20-30 hours on a track or a remix if, as you say, they are coming out like crap.

Choose 1 (exactly 1) style or genre or theme for an EP, just 4-6 tracks, and do just one after the other, or switch between them if you get bored or hit a wall. Work a little bit every day. I have the same problem of trying to work for 3 days straight, 8 hours a day, then I do nothing for a month. That's bad, just pace yourself. And you have to commit to uploading something complete.

Get your EP together OP, I believe in you. It's EDM I'm guessing? I'd love to hear anything of it. Put your completed project on youtube and soundcloud for free. I'd also highly recommend Discokid to get it on Spotify/Apple Music, it's like $10 a year and feels immensely good to go on your streaming app and see your record.

You can do it!!

I only try to make electronic music, yes, but I wouldn't describe almost any of it as EDM. But point taken.

I do, unsurprisingly, have severe ADHD but even if I take amphetamine (with minimal tolerance, after a tolerance break) to mitigate the ADHD I don't really get any better at making or finishing songs. If anything I get worse since I devote way more hours to a dead end I inevitably realize is terrible and scrap.

I kind of have three issues:

1. The music is bad.
2. I cannot finish the music.
3. The music is so bad/disjointed/non-musical it does not even have any plausible structure that could result in it *being* finished (at least without starting from zero, basically).

I would actually feel quite a bit better if it was just a matter of "it's bad but I can finish it and just release something bad". But it's just a problem at every level.

Honestly it sounds like you like music and are interested in making it, but you don't seem to understand anything about what makes a song, if what you're saying is true. There's tons of tutorials on youtube for understanding the makings of songs, basic chorus-verse structures, melodies, beats. I'm not even talking about music theory or learning notes, just how a song works. That's the first step.

finish 1 song. Likely you only know how to make intros but not bridges or outros. You can look up all this theory on how to compose music in YouTube FOR FREE.

I've been at it for 10 years. I've read all the tutorials and watched all the videos. It's a skill issue, not a knowledge issue.

>>128991548
I am currently digging through hundreds of files to try to find the closest thing resembling an actual song to see if there's anything I could even consider uploading
>>
>>128991719
Then that's a major skill issue but I'd also argue a knowledge issue. Or you think you have the necessary knowledge when you clearly don't. You're telling me you've honestly been making music for 10 years and don't have even a chorus or verse put down anywhere?

Ether you do have stuff and you're being purposely obtuse, or you're kinda a doorknob.

Whatever man, do or don't. I'm sure no matter what I suggest you'll have excuses. It's your life.
