How did composers create the old (pre-Renaissance) Disney soundtrack sound? Modern pastiches/attempts at it sound nothing alike. It's not just the recording quality, as it's incredibly clear despite the distortion. Modern movie scores sound washed out and distant by comparison. (That's not a criticism, modern recording is a godsend for orchestras. I'm just comparing). Acoustics must be a part of it. Did the musicians have a different playing style then, and to hand the original arrangement to a modern orchestra would sound different? Or is it entirely down to lost arrangement techniques?
