the complete fall to irrelevance of The Black Keys needs to be studied

They were never relevant, what are you about?

the hell needs to be studied about that?

>>
>>129013807
they look more like söyboys
chuds are more off-putting
>>
>>129013652
Their only good album was Brothers.
>>
The only song anyone knows from them is Lonely Boy
>>
>>129013652
I can't name one song or album by them
I don't know one person who can name a song or album by them
I am not some basic chud who lives under a rock and neither is anyone I know
I can only remember briefly trying to get into them in the summer of 2012 because I suspected a girl I liked might be into them, but it was mostly unmemorable slop and I don't remember a single track.
Somehow they were at one point an arena-level band. I have no idea how that happens or who was going to these concerts.
Anyone who does this shit long enough eventually realizes bands are businesses ans 80% of band problems are business problems.
The kinds of problems The Black Keys had ate the kinds of problems businesses have when they try to expand too quickly, default on some payments, lose certain lines of credit, fuck their shit up, and end up worse off than they were as a small business
>>
I dunno. My mom still likes them.
>>
>>129013652
No?

They had some four great albums of them just playing the blues. Then they "sold out" by making music with Danger Mouse, but which was still good and catchy. Eventually they became unable to do catchy music and went back into irrelevance, pretty normal.

Unfortunately, they decided not to return to their original sound, and so they just got what they deserved. In any case, amd this should be stressed on /mu/ because many people do not seem to understand this: their shitty music and perfomances do not erase their good music they made twenty-fifteen years ago.
>>
>>129013652
They're just a rip-off of previous blues rock bands. They deserve no sympathy.
>>
>>129013652
Don't they make that weird Ford truck commercial over produced stock music kinda shit?
>>
Imagine getting beat up by your wife
>>
>>129013652
They make good music, relevant or not
>>
American indie bands always disappear quick. Two Door Cinema Club, for example , they are still around and everyone loves WhatYouKnow , because they are british.
>>
Boomer here, never bothered with them really but the first couple of albums are solid 3 star background music. Once you're a bit into blues music you go directly to the source anyway, after you listen to Junior Kimbrough or Fred McDowell and then come back to this, this is just bland normie shit.

They make Jack White seethe so that's good.
>>
But if anything they've been around for a long time and consistently been in the mainstream since 2002, until a couple of years ago, so it's the opposite.
>>
>>129016281
nah i don't care for music recorded on a potato just because is from a black guy from new orleans

Lonely Boy is a good song. Watch them have a resurgence in a few years with the rest of the millenialcore shit.

yeah, people act like every even remotely successful band or musician is entitled to a multi-decade run of success. Having a few good years before churning out mediocrity -if they even continue at all- is pretty much best case scenario for everyone except the handful of genuine legends.

It's really no wonder that rock and guitar music died. All of the rock and folk and indie bands on this poster are fucking garbage. The switch to pop and hip hop genuinely was not a major drop from this era.

My brother is a fan but after a brief foray into electronic music he's down bad with the blues these days just like dad, but digging ever deeper into more and more obscure guitarists. I suspect when he's 60 and I'm 70 he's gonna be listening to someone like Blind Lemon Jefferson or some shit.

It was a good era for /mu/ in spite of pitchfork indie slop. Hipster culture encouraged people to seek out and share interesting and obscure music as opposed to /mu/ post-2015 which became endless conversations about the same handful of artists.

>>
>>129013652
The music industry was keeping rock on life support at that time, the talent pool had pretty much dried up and they had little to work with. Then with the advent of the internet and easy access to whatever you want, the bottom fell out and rock died completely. These guys were around the tail end of all of that
>>
>>129029164
I think they were just successful because they were an unabashedly loud and fun blues rock band that sang about getting laid in an era when sexless nerdy indie music dominated the rock universe.

>>129013652

>>
>>129013807
Their last album and tour bombed so hard that they accepted a gig at a republican crypto bro superpac event to recoup the losses.
>>
Nothing wrong with the Black Keys. Nothing wrong with the era they're from. Nothing wrong that jinglewriters for car companies ripped off that fuzzy yet Velveeta-smooth, boombapboomboom sound for Chevy commercials.

I wasn't even a fan of the Black Keys and still don't listen to their stuff, but this is America and we support regional rock acts.

>the gimmick wore off
What more is there to study? Yeah their music could be catchy and fun to listen to at parties or over the PA at sporting events, but ultimately it was just one giant white boy blues cliche that never evolved or went anywhere. There’s only so many ways to play I — bIII — IV with a slide and some distortion without it starting to sound like the same song after awhile. They were strictly a more one-dimensional White Stripes and never escaped that pigeonhole. It’s hard to think of a band with less range than the black keys.

“needs to be studied” is one of my least favorite expressions. 100% certain it was first used by a fat black girl or gay. Anyways, I’m not a big fan of the Black Keys but there rise and decline is typical and in no way “needs to be studied”.

If I had to point out a really annoying band on this list it would be Tuneyards. What a stupid annoying millennial rock band that killed rock.

Why single them out specifically? The whole "indie" era seemingly fell into irrelevance.

Yes, please. I wouldn't even mind if all of that indie shit came back. Anything. Just enough with rap and all this 'get yo opps and get money' talk.
