>literally nothing but rap releases

The only white people that should be allowed to make and listen to rap should be wiggers living in trailer parks. These college soft liberal types just shat up rap and morphed into some gay pastiche of itself. And I say this as someone who doesn't even like rap, but is mostly a metalhead. I feel like the same thing that happened to rap happened to metal as well, going from badass heavy/thrash metal enjoyed mainly by working class men to soulless tech wank and overtly theatrical slop by music school graduates

damn, it's almost as if rock died 15 years ago

I'm not even sure white people actually listen to it. Like when you go in a store all you hear is 80s music. If it was back in the 80s you would have fully assumed you'd hear current releases played not stuff from the 50s.

All the OP stuff aged like old milk and none of it is going to be regarded as on the same level of 70s music.

Late 2010s were a terrible time for Pop music as most early 2010s pop artists had nothing new to offer and had a terrible hit rate for aging well as most popular music with mass market appeal does. rock was so dead in the mainstream that the only forces around were underground, indie bands that old /mu/ thrived off of, but even that well was drying up as previous arbiters of taste making like Pitchfork were bought up and fading in relevance. Rap music filled the void for rock AND pop's cultural importance as an art form. That is largely following the path that 2000s pop music did, where only a select few are still making music people care about by both feeling important and universal.

What seems to have largely taken its place is again pop music, but pop music that is finding its footing as post-Lorde emotional pop, but with even more focus on nostalgia.
