Brenda Lee was only 13 when she recorded the vocals for “Rockin’ around the Christmas Tree”? What the helly?

She was signed to Decca's country division at 12 on Red Foley's recommendation, but they didn't know what to do with her. Her vocal abilities couldn't be denied (and Patience and Prudence she certainly was not), but the label was unsure of how to market a 12 year old and they couldn't have her sing sexually charged rock-and-roll songs. Despite being on the label's country division, they chose to market her as pop even though she recorded mostly in Nashville with the same backing musicians as many of the country stars of the day, and her hits were played almost entirely on pop radio and not country radio.

You know a lot about Brenda Lee, oh wise one
>>
now she unquestioningly ruled the charts along with Connie Francis for several years, one being that the 60s in general was thin on female pop talent compared to the 50s (if anything the 60s was far stronger for male pop talent). though Brenda always had more cred with rock fans while Connie was just too girly to ever win acceptance.

she tried to come back in the early 90s on Warner but it didn't go anywhere

Her voice was starting to lose its top end by that point.

I never understood at the end of the song why she starts honking like a goose, it's so jarring and unexpected
>>
she had a great cover of "Ballin' The Jack" and i've heard some quite bad ones

I used to think this song was about dancing with a tree. Maybe she thought the same thing?
>>
I was just thinking about how this song immortalized everyone who played on it this past season. Thanks for the info bros
