Slint thread? Slint thread.

As much as I love Spiderland, pic rel is secretly their finest hour. One of the best post-rock records too, easily in my top 10.

What I really don't get is why these guys didn't embrace the popularity they had gained later and make any new songs or double down on it. Instead they were just like, we just wanna continue our strictly normal lives and reluctantly give a reunion tour once every decade or so. My god I just want them to do one more, final album so badly bros.
>>
its just shitty rock music? whats the big deal?
>>
>>129044303
Zoomer, go away.

mama mia
>>
>>129044217
They were like 17 and 18 when they made Spiderland and it didn't really gain a huge following until years after
Its honestly better they just leave it at that and not try to jeopardize their legacy
>>
>>129044217
it would be shit
>>
>>129044390
I mean yeah, I get that. It's been decades and they wouldn't be able to recapture that late-teen angst. But the videos of them live on their reunion tours show so much passion on the stage, that I refuse to believe they are incapable of putting out one last, final goodbye album that could be a masterpiece.

>>129044392
Sure, there is the risk that it could be shit. But I dunno man, I dream of what could be.

It would have at the very least been cool of them to record a studio version of King's Approach, I mean it's a fully finished song that they just never bothered recording in a studio. Same demo "Brian's song", it's so good, I wish it had Britt's drumming on it, although I guess that track is more proto-TFC than anything else.
>>
Good Morning Captain is one of the best songs ever fucking recorded
>>
I've listened to Spiderland so much that eventually I just had For Dinner... on repeat again and again because I had played the other tracks so much. For Dinner is amazing, that's how good the album is, it feels so placid amongst these other tracks and because of that everyone sleeps on it. But if you actually pay attention to it, you realize how good it is.

It's Slint making their singular Slowcore song and it's as good as the absolute best the genre has to offer.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GsRpS6XGiOs have you guys seen the slint doc

>>129044217
I believe they going to make a follow up album in a cabin, but it didn't work out unfortunately
>>
>>129044973
>have you guys seen the slint doc
Yeah. The part where they show them rehearsing Good Morning Captain in Britt's basement is kino
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JrPMqHSWdDg
I also read this, was cool
>>
>>129044217
yeah like it worked out very well for panchiko right?
>>
>>129044942
They should have made Spiderland entirely instrumental.
>>
>>129045970
why tho
>>
>>129046074
Vocals can kill a track simply because it ties to a real specific theme that no one relates to. If there were no words attached to the music, the standards would be much more elevated without the use of language.

>Vocals can kill a track simply because it ties to a real specific theme that no one relates to.
as must be the case with Spiderland
examples?

not always

this isn't bait in any way. But anybody else feel like Schlagenheim is Tweez if Tweez was good?
>>
>>129046901
Tweez is good and black midi sucks
>>
>>129044390
yeah, I don't know much about this band, but from what i've seen and heard, they used to practice constantly when they were that age and as a result, would obviously know all of each other's tendencies and shit and be able to play off that, etc.
no way would they have the patience to practice that much with each other in their 50's.
it would be a let down.

david pajo is a completely insufferable goober but a lot of his solo albums are pretty good imo. i enjoy some of them more casually than slint at times

i've heard several different things (haven't seen the doc though), the most craziest thing i heard is they were looking for a female vocalist. and that's what fucking pisses me off, we were robbed of a slint album with female vocals.
rodan doesn't count
>>
>>129044188
That spiderland album was some of the worst shit I’ve ever heard. Definitely the last time I ever listen to a rec from the homosexuals on this board.

I like the recordings here better. If you get stoned, blast it, then look at the cover photo, it's easy to imagine a good story for it.

man you should watch the doc, it gives you allot of insights and also has a feeling of small town melancholy, i like it allot

>I MISSSSS YOUUUUUUUUU
>>
>>129044212
I'm just listening to this crap and it's got nothing on Spiderland. 2 chord progressions, only drums stand out, lyrics are completely soulless, pure contemporary adult cringe.
>>
>>129054927
that's why you don't just ad-lib lyrics.
there's a good chance you'll do something faggy and then it's forever.
>>
>>129055348
What are you talking about? It's the best possible climax for that song. 10/10
>>
>>129050690
It sounds like you subconsciously wanted to dislike it before going in, Mr. Contrarian.

Am I the only one who thinks the album cover pic for Tweez goes hard as fuck? It's literally just a car, but there's something imposing about it especially with all the dead trees in the background. I kinda wanna get a shitbox car that looks just like it, just for vibes.

Also, Charlotte is most underrated and best track on Tweez.
>>
>>129058727
I agree. Album cover is badass, the music though, I don't remember it well but didn't care much for it years ago.
>>
>>129058727
>>129059056
all of albini's gay studio recordings ruin it for me, they're incredibly annoying. but also it barely sounds like slint, i don't think albini made the band change their sound at all, i just don't think it's their best material
>>
>>129044390
didn’t greg sage praise it within a year
>>
>>129059367
I'll never understand the Albini hate. For me personally what makes me LIKE Tweez is that it sounds so raw and gnarly scrangley sounding. And you say it doesn't sound like Slint, but it was their FIRST album. It's just the other half of Slint sound. Sure it sounds a bit Big Black-esque, but I fuckin love Big Black so I'm biased there.
>>
>>129044188
could never get into this album. always wanted to because on paper i should like it, but i always thought it was mixed really badly and not badly in a good way like black metal albums are.
