>people always rave about Stariway to Heaven by Led Zepplin, often calling it the peak of music>listen to it>this shit is so mid frI dont get it

>>129044349it's just long. Any song that is above 3:00 and gets to the charts will be praised by boring pretentious people
>>129044349Boring self indulgent rock like Zepplin is why punk and metal took over. Also why only AC/DC survived the 70s and bands like Queen and The Who either died or only survived on soundtracks and other corporate bullshit since no one actually listened to their albums anymore.
>you live in the reality where Stairway is their famous epic song and not Achilles' Last Stand
>>129045762>>129046051>zoomer brains are so fried they can't listen to an 8 minute song without shitting their pants
>>129046295Gen X. There are good long songs (see Rush, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, etc). The difference is that they have interesting riffs and aren't just 6 minutes of wank with forgettable chords in the background.

>>129046273>Be me Jewish scientist dad and programmer non-jewish mom >want to go to Israel on "Birthright" where you get a free trip to Israel if you have some Jewish blood>Go to Airport with parents >They start eyeballing my passport>Be so secular and nervous you don't know the holidays and say Ramadan by mistake when they ask you to name some Jewish holidays because you mix up Yom Kippur with Ramadan because you fast during both those holidays >The jewish embassy starts to get nervous by my answer, start talking amongst selves and running around with my passport, exclaiming things in hebrew>Behind me, unbeknownst to me at the time, two armed US troops quietly position themselves in view, in a nudge nudge he's still a US citizen btw>Embassy chills out and says I have to go into the further screening group >Intensive ten day tourist trip through Israel with different city stops and hotels >constant monitoring because we are US citizens in the middle East >3 hour break at Hotel in Jerusalem >sneak out immediately figuring I can get a good hour by myself and get back in time before anyone notices I'm gone >Walk out of hotel>Put on "Achilles Last Stand" as it is my goto 10 min jogging jam to motivate me to run >End up running through hills to the song with Jerusalem and the sunset in the distance before turning back Epic moment for me, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1t4KLOm7pO0 is underrated.
>>129046051>metal took over>metal isnt "self indulgent"lol
>>129044349It was fancied at the time for the mysterious fantastical lyrics and the combination of a soft acoustic number culminating in an epic crescendo of loud rock. It worked brilliantly to that end. Led Zeppelin's ability to combine the acoustic and electric in the same song was very cool.
>>129046051>ya zeplin suxx0rhow many CDs did Zeppelin sell last year and how many did the Sex Pistols sell?
>>129046430>stairway is wank but rush isn't
>Ten Years Gone>How Many More Times>Good Times Bad Times>The Ocean>No Quarter>When the LEvee Breaks>Bring it on Home>Lemon Song>For Your Life>In My Time of Dying (or Achilles Last Stand)those are 10 zeppelin songs way better than Stairway
>>129046273at least online people rave about Achilles Last Stand all the time, theres plenty of great songs that dont even have that privilege
>>129046051The Who fell apart from internal struggles and Keith Moon fucking dying.
>>129050078>half are straight up plagiarizedZepsters... its over....
The best thing about Stairway to Heaven is that Zappa was covering it with his '88 band and during one rehearsal the horn section played the famous guitar solo at the end. Zappa stopped everything and asked if they could all learn that, and that is the way they played it for the rest of the tour. This was Frank's last tour and they had over 150 song they could play and switched stuff up every night. They also covered Cream and The Beatles, Sinatra, Elvis, Johnny Cash and many others including all sorts of '50s songs. He wasn't mocking Jimmy Page's abilities, it was more of a tribute.
it's an unoriginal idea being dragged out forever and boomers to this day continue to piss and shit themselves over it lmao
