why does this woman trigger jazzfags so hard?
does she?
Because shitty Bed, Bath, and Beyond sound system music that was hyped up only because she was hot and had industry connections.
>>129045190im listening tot that album right now and i feel like she has a decent voice but she doesnt do much with it but maybe thats the entire point?
>>129045047She’s the Kenny G of vocal jazz
not even a patch on 50s-60s jazz albums when mf-ers could drop classics almost in their sleep
https://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/obscure-neglected-female-singers-of-jazz-standards-1930s-to-1960s.588217/You can find albums on every page of this 105 page thread that are better than Diana Krall.
>>129045273lol no, she's actually good, a little overrated but good (and of course hot af)
>>129045047I'm pretty sure I'd need to recognize whoever the hell this is to be 'triggered' by her. I'm sure whoever she is she's fine. I'm a giant jazzhead and this is my first time even seeing her name. Is she just some bland Buble type of singer? Someone fill me in.
Vocal jazz is the least creative and fun type of jazz
>>129045782>Is she just some bland Buble type of singerThat would be accurate. Also both are leafs which should tell you everything.
>>129045251It's like easy-listening music, borderline "muzak." Great voice, but very boring vocal performance. Which makes it great background music while I'm at work. Her song covers are inoffensive and calming. Much prefer jazz singers like Gregory Porter though.
Jazzfag here, never heard of this woman. Jazzfags ignore vocal jazz outside of a couple classic artists
>>129046723>Jazzfags ignore vocal jazz outside of a couple classic artistsPeggy, Ella, Blossom, and Anita, right?
>>129045371Are any of them hot blonde bitches?
>>129047188Some are, I guess. It's a big thread.
>>129047177And from time to time June Christie.
Also not all those shitty late career Teresa Brewer vocal jazz albums, those aren't part of the canon either.
Krall always sounds like she wishes she was dead.
>>129045809Jazz and Drum and Bass is crazy good combination.https://youtu.be/0ofSXvOS2uw
>>129047315>>129047403I don't think Clooney was ever considered to be in Lee or Fitzgerald's league (and she lost an entire decade of her career due to personal issues) but she had some pretty good recordings, the late career Concord albums are decent if not as good as was when she was younger. Not Brewer though, nuts to her. Absolute scene tourist who only "discovered" jazz when she was old and couldn't think of anything else to occupy her time with, and also earn some totally undeserved artistic cred when schlock pop was the only thing she was ever good at.
>>129047467im patrick batemaning pretty hard to the second track, i mean its nice
>>129045047Never heard a song. All I can say is sex sex sex.
>>129047177I had Billie Holiday in mind too. Helen Merrill and Julie London are a couple others. Point being not a lot of contemporary working singers
>>129048322can't forget Nina
>>129045047I don't feel triggered. Miles and Wynton trigger me hard, though... what's wrong with trumpet faggots anyway?
>>129047410evidently she had longtime severe depression issues
no jazz general around, can any jazzheads helpIt's a Wayne shorter song but I can't remember the title thankshttps://vocaroo.com/1ijdea4g4TFd
>>129045047Looks better than she sings, that's for sure.
Krall tried doing a dadrock covers album as well but she didn't really add anything much to those songs.
>>129045190She doesn't have much of a vocal presence.>>129047177All the old legends here had very distinct voices you'd automatically recognize when you hear them.
>>129045047I don't understand DK haters. Sure, she's fairly mainstream and many of her album covers don't really try to make the music the focal point, but to suggest she can't sing or is some sort of throwaway is sort of starting a thread to invite mudslinging. I saw her in '19 with the great Robert Hurst on bass and it was a very legit jazz concert. I mean I don't need everything to be be Sun Ra, Eric Dolphy or Coltrane, y'know? There's plenty of room for standard jazz when it's the time for it.
>>129050732>and many of her album covers don't really try to make the music the focal pointYou don't say.
yeah idk for some reason jazz snobs can't stand Krall or Norah Jones. i guess they just don't accept anything but 50s Blue Note albums as "real" jazz.
>>129050799The point was I guess any of the old legends from the 40s-50s-60s like Lee, Fitzgerald, Dearie, Vaughan, Horn, O'Day, McRae and so forth did the GASB canon better than them.
Fundamentally, Krall is just a competent professional who doesn't have a lot to say and never brings out anything interesting in her recordings. Granted it would be unfair to expect her to have lived the Benny Hill-tier life that Anita O'Day led, but it sure led to more interesting music on the latter's part.
>>129050871>>129050846Natch. All of them had their own imaginative take on the GASB catalog while DK never did, she sounds exactly what anon said--mall sound system music. Of course I will never deny that all the old jazz legends above didn't have a lot of forgettable filler interspersed with the classics, but nobody can be at 100% all the time.
I like her because she's one of the first jazz artists I listened to from my husband's vinyl collection when I first met him
>>129050799Norah at least had a major hit single to her credit so good for her I guess.
>>129050732She's not standard jazz. Do you even know what standard jazz actually is?
>>129047177lol I've been told by boomers that Ella was always considered plebian and marshmallow fluff by jazzfags and that Billie Holiday was the real shit
My mom thought she sung on Chuck Mangione’s Land of Make Believe and it triggered me
>>129053798and also there were some who said Billie was plebian as well and only Ornette Coleman or something was real jazz
Who are the best vocal jazz singers of Krall's era?
