I was at goodwill and there wasn't a single Mitch Miller or Steve Lawrence album.
>>129046939They don't hold a CANDLE to Tom Jones and Engelbert Humperdinck and you damn well know it.
>>129046939The Four Aces and the McGuire Sisters are better than both of those
>>129046981>>129047034It's not a quality judgement, just a meme that you find a lot of their records at thrift stores
>>129046939That's a good thing, it means people don't want to give away those records.
what about>Mormon Tabernacle Choir>Herb Alpert>Burl Ivesno thrift store is complete without these fuckersI used to work at Goodwill about fifteen years ago and even back then corporate wanted us to send them any rock records we got so they could put them up for sale on their Goodwill online auction thing.
>>129046939>>129046981No Barry or Burt?
>>129047516Oh shit I love those two. I vividly remember the day I went to a local record store and I was able to buy Barry's first seven albums all at once. (Pic related, circa 2019)
Of course I forgot the fucking picture.
>>129047034They were primarily singles and not album artists.
>>129046939but was there the requisite Natalie Merchant - Tigerlily?
>>129047274I find no shortage of classic rock albums at antique shops and flea markets, is it just Goodwill that specifically does not put them in their stores and only ever puts 60s MOR records out?
>>129047274Never seen a Herb Alpert album at any thrift store. I don't think his music was as disposable as people assume. He wasn't some watered down classical schlockmeister like Lawrence Welk or Mantovani, whose records also sold by the boatload but didn't inspire any sentimental attachment. Alpert made middle of the road bachelor pad music that was light enough for the older easy listening crowd but hip enough to weather the generation gap. People actually liked his albums and kept them.
>>129046981Everybody loves Tom Jones, even if they say they don't. No one's giving away his stuff.
>>129049296Is this a thing all over America? I assumed it was just Western NY
>>129049413>No one's giving away his stuff.I own 11 of his records. All of them I have found at flea markets. People are giving them away. Trust me.
>>129049447I've been to thrift stores in the midwest, the east coast, and many places in between, and it's always there
>>129049143Look in the 45 bin sometimes you will find those. The dreaded orange Coral label is hard to miss.
I don't really even find housewife pop stuff at Goodwill, but there's a lot of shitty classical and Mantovani type mood music.
usually i find Chumbawamba - Tubthumper and Barenaked Ladies - Stunt on cd
>>129049638the housewife pop stuff were mostly actual artists, whether you like them or not, while Mantovani was just shitty background music to play at parties so there was absolutely no reason to hold onto that
I made a chart of the artists I used to find most frequently when I went to Salvation Armies / Goodwills as a kid. Anyone I should throw in?
>>129050036Never seen BTO Sinatra or Bette Midler, they have an actual audience who wouldn't part with the albums unlike some of this stuff.
>>129050063Maybe it's a mid west thing? I see them there pretty frequently. Especially Sinatra. I see rat pack / vocal jazz stuff all the time.
>>129050074>Bette Midler>MidwestI'd be stunned to find her albums anywhere outside the NYC area.
In general I would not expect to see so much Rat Pack stuff in the Midwest, if anything it'd be more in the Northeast because its audience was mostly urban ethnics. though i live in PA and the local Goodwills only have Mitch Miller/Christmas/Mantovani albums.
>>129050082Also beware of handling them, most of her albums were owned by fags and there could be some gross stuff on the sleeve.
>>129046939West status: fallen
>>129050082Her, Streisand (at least 60s Streisand), and Steve & Eydie were so NYC I can't imagine anyone outside there listening to them.
>>129050036It's 2008 and you have $1, which album are you taking home from Amvets?
I live in North Carolina; you can find vocal jazz stuff for pocket lint in secondhand shops. Nobody wants anything except country and dadrock albums around here.
bargain bin classic right here
>>129050776fuck forgot pic
Everyone on the internet talks about how inundated their local thrift stores etc are with Slim Whitman albums and I never find any of his works at mine. Since I’m the biggest Slim Whitman fan in America who’s under eighty, this is very hard for me.
>>129050609>a bunch of slop and also a 10/10gee billy tough choice
>>129050855I would probably go for Air Supply too
>>129050609easy Mangione W
>>129047274I TOLD YOU I'D SHOOT BUT YOU DIDN'T BELIEVE ME WHY DIDN'T YOU BELIEVE ME
>>129050609JCS
>>129050609I'd ask why Valotte was here afterward.
>>129050813I also grew up watching Ren and Stimpy.
>>129050036I've never seen Christopher Cross or Dan Fogelberg anywhere at Goodwill, Salvation Army, or Thrift World. In fact, Cross is a local celebrity here in South Texas, or at least amongst the older folks he is.
>>129050609Breezin'
>>129050063Moms throwing out their kids stuff and you get there at the right moment. I've picked up Iron Maiden, Jesus and Mary Chain, Depeche Mode and lots of other really good shit at thrift stores.
>>129051328Do I just live in a really lucky state for thrifting or something??? My city is big for flea marketing too so I guess that plays a part in it.
>>129050036you need some harry hibbs in there, 101 strings, and nana mouskouri.
>>129051328I see them both quite a lot
>>129046939Bet there are steve miller albums though because he's complete shit
>>129050609JFK Memorial Album 10 times
>>129047134It just means that scalpers still keep grazing the Goodwills 24/7 to sell the shit on FB marketplace and Ebay at idiotic prices.
>>129046939That was a good show. Sing Along with Mitch was my favorite show growing up.
