that's weird since he didn't play metal
>>

John Lennon accidentally discovered feedback while recording 'I Feel Fine'. That's when metal was invented. That's when Hendrix was invented. Great guitarist though.
>>
>>129049202
but he played psych not metal

Black Sabbath invented metal. There isn't a single jimi hendrix song that sounds anything close to metal. If this isn't bait, please show me what song of his you think influenced metal.
>>
Jefferson Airplane invented metal
>>
DNA of metal was already in Hendrix’s and didn’t invent only feedback... Sabbath came later, but Hendrix had already shown how heavy music could sound. They codified it, sure, but Hendrix made the guitar scream first
Sabbath and the rest only existed because he shattered an era of gentle, almost acoustic playing with a new, brutal intensity.
>>
Wagner invented metal

>>129049202
He invented being the token black

You Really Got Me Now was the first real rocker, and hard rock was basically metal anyways

led zeppelin released their first record before sabbaths first which had Good Times Bad Times, Dazed and Confused, and How Many More Times which all had early elements of metal
>>
>>129049366
which song? don't you want somebody to love? or some lesser discussed song
>>
>>129049202
Cream did it before him, and so did the Yardbirds.
>>
>>129049398
i think you could argue the more rocking Who and Kinks songs beat hendrix to the punch
>>
Honestly it was Dick Dale.
>>
>>129049991
>Honestly it was Dick Dale.
This.
There's a weirdly underdiscussed fact that metal and the later heavier forms of rock music have far more in common with instrumental guitar music than they do with early 60s 'rock groups'. Tony Iommi's favorite guitarist was Hank Marvin from the Shadows for example.

Instrumental guitar music was incredibly popular in the 50s and 60s, including surf rock like Dick Dale in that, and yet no one seems to talk about how much of a big deal it was. I'm assuming part of this is because music critics never mentioned it.
>>
>>129050014
The Fender Dual Showman (100 watt head, 15" speaker cabinets) built to Dale's specs so he could play big halls was the first monster guitar amp (or at least the most successful one). Equipment matters as much as anything to heavy music.
>>
>>129049202
I mean he definitely played a massive part in influencing the distorted guitar and flashy solo / riff driven style of early metal and definitely influenced early metal guitarists like Iommi (Who was also deeply influenced by acts like Cream), but to say he "invented" metal is just false lol
>>
>>129049963
White Rabbit is the song I had in mind

That's not the same thing as actual metal, though.
>>
The thing is, metal isn't just a sound, it's also the subject mater, specifically teen angst, war, drugs and occult. A riff-based distorted song with lyrics about butterflies and rainbows isn't metal.

I think the same
The soul of metal comes from him
>>
>>129049202
He did not.
>>
>>129049202
Real heavy metal as it is understood today didn't occur until the NWOBHM of the late 70s. Yeah, heavy metal, the term existed before that, and it was used interchangeably with hard rock but since NWOBHM are we even talking about heavy metal as a genre completely separate from rock.
>>
metal was just rock/blues with distortion. It was invented with the distortion pedal
>>
>>129051412
who these nigga's?
>>
>>129049202
Pink Floyd invented metal with The Nile Song.
>>
Johnny Burnette invented Heavy Metal
>>
>>129049202
most people on this thread won't get it because most of them are zoomers that won't ever experience the bliss of listening to Jimi before getting into metal or hard rock. Man i tell you going from rolling atones, the who and yardbirds to what Jimi was doing, it was a fucking kick in the teeth. No one played with such aggression and made the guitar scream like jimi. Voodoo child and purple haze is all it took to make a whole genersation crank the amps and go crazy.
>>
People who don't listen to/like metal love claiming some wiffle ball riffless groove shit like Helter Skelter or Purple Haze "invented metal".
>>
>>129056005
>No one played with such aggression and made the guitar scream
Dick Dale. But he's not even close to metal because he lacked the British influence that Jimi had.

To sum it all up: it was Beethoven, Wagner, Debussy, Link Wray, Johnny Burnette, Dick Dale and Vanilla Fudge.
