>It has negro music
LOL

disconnect for at least 6 months from any screen or internet interactions if you think normies are listening to Television or Mingus

do you know how to read? I said "most"

for me, it's TRAFOZSATSFM

those "AOTY Critics" ratings are meaningless, most albums have like 5 reviews (hence why half of them are rated 100) while TPAB for example has 50 reviews

Bro Television is peak normgroid crap. Before its Pitchfork-orchestrated revival about 10 years ago nobody even cared about them, let alone put them in a GOAT top 50. As for Mingus, and in general all the jazz picks here are meme-tier. There's stuff by Sonny Rollins that's much more influential than TBSatSL or ALS. Even Coltrane's own catalog has much better options. They pick Mingus only because he could handle that absolute freak Eric Dolphy.

>nobody even cared about them
television literally influenced the pixies, u2 and sonic youth
the rock scene of the 80s would exist without them

They're kinda boring if you listen to them today, though. That's kind of true. A lot of their stuff meanders for multiple minutes not really going anywhere. The same problem that 'jam bands' have, except in the context of pop/rock.

Yeah, them and the New York Dolls...
They're just one of those obscure bands that critics pick up from the trash and hype. Their only cultural significance is that they helped music reviewers extend their influence and justify their existence.
