The 80s were for metal what the 60s-70s were to rock : a decade of constant hits and innovation. Trash, Death, Black, Power, Glam etc... were invented, and many metal bands had their best albums, so it's no surprise more competition = more output. It's what the 00s were to emo or pop punk, both Devil and God and the Black Parade came out in 2006.
