my mommy grounded me for listening to marilyn manson :(
MM was significant to me when I was 9 or 10, and again when I was 14. When I was 9 The Dope Show was on MTV, and I found it fascinating, though I didn't understand it. I asked family about it and they just told me it was bad and I shouldn't watch it. When I was 14 and in high school I liked him partially because he was edgy, but much more significantly because I was dealing with painful emotions of alienation, rejection, and what I'd later learn to be Major Depressive Disorder, and songs like The Nobodies expressed what I was feeling really well. I moved on pretty quickly and got into early punk like Richard Hell, but I wonder how much MM laid the foundation for me to later get into everything from glam rock to industrial to black metal. Now when I listen to MM it sounds kind of lame, everything sounds goofy and shallow, but the one major exception is Mechanical Animals, which is just an incredibly well-written album.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQPJYnr48yU

mm was my favourite band when i was like 11 i thought it was the best shit ever. it's still good but yeah. when you're first feeling that urge to be independent and rebel he was like the perfect example of just doing whatever the fuck you want and not caring about what ppl say. good tunes

As i kid i thought he seemed like horror but for music. Seeing this album at target was like the coolest scariest thing ive seen, like those scary horror movie box arts at blockbuster or whatever. So i really wanted it but my parents said it was inappropriate. I eventually got it and it was pretty cool i guess. Never because my favorite or anything. And it was always disappointing how his album art was always scarier than the music ever was, which was hardly at all. Later on i got into cannibal corpse and burzum which sounded exactly as freaky as i imagined manson was supposed to. But comparatively no one knew about them, so it wasnt as exciting. Dont listen to him anymore aside from very occasionally going back to listen to one song here or there. Black metal is still great and way better.https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=HN7-DmTtNdM
