It's interdasting that the original May 1979 pressing didn't include John Peel's influence of "Teenage Kicks" on the record, because John Peel's influence had yet to factor into the finalized album.

The Undertones were so far removed from popular opinion and genuinely believed the OG pressing with its collection of songs was great enough, hot take, they were 99% right. Teenage Kicks is overdose territory, welcomed yes, but Teenage Kicks isn't even the best song, should've remained a 7", special like that, as a single.
Frustrating that John Peel playing the TK single back to back shaped critical opinion and undermined the legacy of a perfect pop punk record, read any review of The Undertones 1979, and you'll get John Peel glazing

>tldr; The Original Undertones May 1979 LP is absolute perfection without the John Peel glaze
>>
Anytime Undertones self titled gets brought up all criticfags with no self-stylized opinion or self-awareness always mention John Peel's favorite song "Teenage Kicks" as if that's the end all be all when discussing this literal perfect album,

Read any subsequent review it's all about John Peel and le Teenage Kicks, it's all so fake and so gay

Unironically could you even imagine just listening to the original May pressing and being satisfied without John Peel's Teenage Kicks

RIP JOHN PEEL

John Peel only liked Teenage Kicks because he was a nonce.

The Undertones [Sire, 1979]
Nice lads, nice lads--suddenly the world is teeming with nice lads. I like their punky speed and adolescent authenticity, but I'd prefer the reverse--among adolescents these days the speed takes care of itself, while finding something besides teendom to write about is a problem. B+

I agree but elaborate, you solved the captcha for this

he's not wrong, actually that was what ruined rock in the 97-06 period and finally killed it off. too much pandering to mall teens that even when you were 15 it came off as patronizing and lame.

John Peel liked Teenage Kicks because he was a pedophile

Yeah I read that, The Undertones ackshually brought an escape from a violence climate, it's so condescending how these critics reviewed this record, in hindsight. I get that BBC John Peel stole the thunder and solidified the record for a single to overtake the overall whole genuine feel of the LP

Paul Morley's review in NME was probably the most poignant fresh exciting perspective on the original May 1979 album.
>>
The question is do we accept John Peel's version and influence of events to footnote The Undertones with Teenage Kicks forever or do we accept that the original May pressing of Undertones self-titled 1979 as the ultimate finished document, which imo it is perfect, don't let that sway you, hear it for yourself

You can't even youtube the album without all the incredible add ons bonus tracks. I suggest you listen to the OG May pressing of the album, as it was intended.

I have an old Canadian pressing of this record, and they included Teenage Kicks on that version. The same probably goes for the US pressing.
I doubt they added the song on there for any reasons related to what you just posted because this sort of this was common practice back then. (See also: The Specials first album includes the song "Gangsters" on some old North American pressings)

Uhh the time he openly talked about being surprised that one of the girls who regularly sucked his dick at the radio station was 13, or maybe the time he married a 15 year old. So yeah it makes sense his favorite song ever is a song about fucking teenagers

The OG Undertones May pressing LP excludes Teenage Kicks and Get Over You.

Later In October The Undertones album was re-issued with both of those tracks tacked on, due to John Peel's influence. This became a way of how the initial LP was perceived, thru John Peel's obsession with Teenage Kicks, which begs the John Peel glazing question that ultimately denied the original LP its classic status, as the band had ascertain so.

Ask any one about the Undertones LP, and some fag is gonna praise Teenage Kicks, due to John Peel , this shouldn't be the case, the original album holds its own

I've read reviews that usually start and end with acknowledging John Peel's le favorite song Teenage Kicks, and regularly that encapsulates the whole of an Undertones album review.
