There is nowhere that Thing Japan is more true than underground music. If I find any random Jap artist who has under 1000 listeners on Spotify or, if I'm truly blessed, has no Spotify at all, there is a 95% chance it will be some of the best music I have ever heard in that genre. I have hours and hours of obscure psychedelia, art pop, and adjacent genres which I will never share with any of you which I discovered simply by listening to no name Japs.

one of my favorite bands when I was 14/15 was some random noname japanese metalcore band with 30ish monthly listeners on spotify that I discovered through some youtube channel that uploaded mostly fear and loathing in las vegas music videos. I also remember discovering some random art pop song with a couple thousand youtube views a couple years ago before I knew what art pop was and having my mind blown
