I promise you anon what I am about to say is the truth: every other album by captain beefheart is actually good and decent to listen to, this album that he started a quasi cult over is probably the worst thing anyone has ever recorded. It's very bad, it's indescribably bad. All of his other albums are relatively normal blues rock stuff and genuinely good stuff. Trout Mask Replica for some reason he just decided to start a cult and make the worst record anybody ever recorded ever. It's worth listening to just as a phenomena of how dogshit it is, and that you can listen to records he made before and after and they are completely normal. It's bizarre.
