Bass is overtaking the electric guitar in popularity and relevance for young people, from what I'm seeing at the local music store and my internet feed.
younger people I talk to about music are playing/want to learn acoustic guitar or electric bass.
If this is a real trend, what caused it?
>>
>>129080697
its easy to play. kids today are lazy and dont put effort or time into learning things
>>
>>129080710
Or maybe the electric guitar has devolved into a self-indulgent technique contest for nerds.
What tries to get passed as "impressive" doesn't even sound like music anymore.
Whatever nerds touch becomes unsexy.

anyone can play the bass. its literally the retard instrument next to the triangle

no its not. shut up lol

With the guitar you can get away with being off-tempo, and it's often preferred for an artistic touch.
With the bass you will ruin everything unless you're following the drummer down to the millisecond.

The electric guitar makes scwawy distorted noises

Let's hear your bass performance of Stella Was a Diver.
>>
Bass is harder than rhythm guitar in rock unless it just follows the rhythm guitar (and even then).
>>
>>129097482
Is really that hard?

>>129097553
Ass a bassists I'm telling you that you're wrong
>>
>>129097867
It's intermediate. I'm not claiming all bass is Jaco Pastorius. But I think playing Stella on bass is harder than running through 3 or 4 chords on an indie song.
>>
>>129080710
and it's better when played alone in your room
>>
Bass is a soulless robot instrument and zoomers are soulless bugpeople NPCs. Makes sense to me.

As a "Failed guitarist" who just kept finding himself taking over bass for bands because guitarists were easy to find... I find this bizarre... especially in a time when 8 and 9 string guitars are relatively easy to find.
>>
>>129080810
If you're playing an instrument to impress chicks, you're doing it the hard way. Wank has been a thing since before the electric guitar existed - the current wave of hot shit guitarists is really similar to the last, just with more of a tendency toward hard syncopation, hard gates, and whammy pedals. Vai's been jerking his guitar off since 1980. Dick Dale stopped jerking his off in 2019.
>>
I can play guitar, but the bass in too important to trust to someone else. Ive played with a bunch of failed guitarists who thing they can play the bass, its shameful. Id rather just let them sloppily play rythm guitar.
>>
i love bass and I'm melodically very talented with it in ways my other bass playing friends never reached but when it comes to playing with my fingers I'm like Paul McCartney, I prefer a pick and I slap like a total amateur, practically makes me blacklisted if I was to audition for bands, I'm like that with drums too, very talented in many ways but I don't do dual bass pedals and my stamina isn't amazing so basically no metal or punk but I can groove like a mothafucka and slide in those offbeats wherever

>DOWN TO THE MILLISECOND
yes anon that's how you play music
>>
>>129102622
... Myeh...
sometimes a little push - 3-5ms or so - helps the bass cut through on fast busy passages, and sometimes dragging a touch - either playing a bit behind, or holding notes a bit too long - can help drive the point home on slow passages.
Quantizing the absolute piss out of everything within a millisecond of the bar is how you get mechanically precise music, but sometimes a little slop is exactly what's needed. Up to a 32nd note in either direction (unless you're playing seriously largo) is just enough slop to avoid being sloppy - where it's not a miss, it's a "choice".
>>
It's because if you're above 6ft bass looks cool on you while guitar looks kind of gay and small
Below 6ft and guitar fits you but bass looks overly big and strange
Anyway zoomers are taller than millennials on average and only care about social media
>>
Bass is so cool bros.

>3-5ms or so
Not audible on bass.
>Up to a 32nd note in either direction
Assuming default 120bpm, that's 63ms. Easily audible.
>>
I like it when the bass is the rhythm guitar (manowar, motorhead, sodom) or another lead guitar (metallica, iron maiden)
>>
One thing. Stupid fucking barre chords
>>
>>129107287
>I like it when the bass is the rhythm guitar (manowar, motorhead, sodom) or another lead guitar
U wot m8?
>>
>>129107846
in those bands the bass nearly functions as another guitar and not some background noise playing the root notes
>>
>>129107936
You will love royal blood
>>
>>129107249
500ms per beat at 120bpm
15.63ms per 32nd note.
Audibly pushing or dragging, but, as I said, it can be necessary if the bass is driving a groove that has a syncopated or drunk vibe with tight percussion. Sometimes the bass needs to be dead on, and the snare might need to drag or push a 32nd or so.

Where the hell did you get 63ms from? 8th notes? Yeah, that's out.
>>
>>129107995
So much potential for a cool sound wasted on stomp clap truck commercial bullshit
>>
>>129098981
>and it's better when played alone in your room
what? how the fuck can bass possibly be better than guitar for playing alone in your room? bass is boring as fuck to play alone
>>
The only way to make bass not boring to play alone is by doing too much.
