Was Charley Patton white, black, or mixed? In picrel, he looks kind of like a white guy darkening his skin. In the John Fahey book about him, people who knew him describe him as lightskinned. There's a second photo of him whose authenticity is debated, in which he looks very white. What's the real answer?

This, I own the huuge Charley Patton box set which comes with a comprehensive biography and the concensus is he was probably about half black, quarter white, and quarter native
