Hearing Marquee Moon for the first time when I was like 17 was a monumental shift in how I wanted to play guitar and now all these years later Verlaine and Lloyd are still at the top of my list, Verlaine especially as both a songwriter and a guitarist. Never really got into Allman Brothers and can’t say I’ve listened to any of their stuff other than whatever might be on the radio, but I used to gig with a guy who was older than my parents and Ramblin Man was a song he insisted we learn and play and that’s the only song of theirs I can say I really know
>>129090094
Their solo stuff is great but there’s a real magic when they were together. Tom Verlaine was a weird player who did things weird and Richard Lloyd is one of the closest things to a Hendrix protege and is a very skilled guitarist and when they played together they just bounced off of each other perfectly

>>
Should I get this thing? I think it's really stupid and redundant to have a dial for all the modes of the major scale on it but other than that it seems good. I just want to be able to do harmonized leads like Ratt, Thin Lizzy, Iron Maiden, Scorpions, Judas Priest, etc.
>>
>>129092816
Depends what you want to sound like

Rats are great, I have one on my board. Angry Driver is great but a completely different sound and purpose. With a Rat, there's one sound you find then keep it at that, the AD has a lot of possibilities but it leans towards the JCM800 sound. I prefer the JTM45 sound like in the regular CB

Every harmoniser is going to be bad or have latency. It's also a pain in the ass to change for every key change. If you want harmonized guitars, record twice or get another guitarist

Harmonizers are kinda memey, I only care for 4th/5th and octave sounds on them. Actual melodic lines probably don't track since most music isn't purely diatonic.

alright, I understand the hate for the epiphone grabber, but the sliding pickup of the original was literally a pointless gimmick just sliding back and forth. you could get more tonal variation just playing closer/further from the bridge without the moving the pickup; the epiphone comes with toggle switch to split coils putting it way above the original, it was supposed to compete with the mustang bass, but it's all I ever wanted out of p-bass.

Jamming festival went great with my friends. We jammed twice with some random people and I feel like i held my own pretty well. Didn't do anything fancy on bass, we picked a key and went from there. Definitely going to work on my reading skills. Festival had a bunch of play along stuff but I cant read all that well yet. Looking for gear recommendations, these are my goals:

- Dawless (I'm trying to spend less time in front of a computer)
- 3 devices top (not counting my guitar gear)
- Focus on making rock/metal/jazz demos (I play guitar, bass and al little bit of keys)

I want to reserve my computer and daw use exclusively for polishing ideas.

After a long delay, the missing pieces finally arrived: Dynasonics for middle and neck position and a Duesenberg D-Tron for the bridge
I'm crafting the pickguard out of a bronze plate which I think will look cool with the aluminum body, especially when it starts to oxidize and gets a nice patina. The switches and knobs are nickel.

I finally got a proper amp. Im currently playing it on my bass since my guitar is at the repair shop. I am thoroughly impressed with the sound, i can hear all the resonant frequencies and harmonics when i play for example a major third. Major third sounds so so good on the amp. I especially like the '65 deluxe preset. Overall the amp sounds very good and i cant wait to try it out on an actual guitar.
Ofcourse this new acquisition rejuvenated my will to actually make some music

You got them all right except leonardo. He's the leader, so he needs a proper lead guitar, a blue Ibanez rg550. Swords are slim and so is the RG's wizard neck. Him knowing karate and karate being born in japan further solidifies this pick.

I’m not really sure but I imagine it will be less hard on the amp. it’s something to do with the speaker; I know the way speakers move under low frequency takes a lot more energy than higher frequencies. just something to be considerate of

strat on the 4 position. humbuckers aren’t in the right location on the body to do it like a strat
>>
Did you know that D'addario uses cheap, colored plastic ball ends? Did you know that they also haphazardly throw all the strings into a pouch so they get all tangled up in eachother to save a few more pennies?

That shit wouldn't fly over at Ernie Ball.

Ernie Ball understood something that Luigi D'addario didn't understand: tone. Real American metal ball ends ensure that the vibration of the string transfers to the wood of the body, increasing volume, tone and sustain.

Sure, plastic is much cheaper than real american metal, and I'm sure that's why the mafia controlled D'addario brand uses it.

There's nothing wrong with cheap, budget strings if you're poor... But D'addario costs the same as Ernie Ball. You are paying Ernie Ball prices for an ethnic company's cheap quality plastic anchored strings that are haphazardly and carelessly thrown into a single package together.

When I play to backing tracks of songs, it sounds like shit. I just don't know how to tweak my tone so it sounds good. How do you people handle this? I don't want to "mix" that shit. Josh Homme/Troy Van Leuwen
Kirk Hammett/James Hetfield
Also gotta acknowledge Dimebag Darrell, Jerry Cantrell, and Dean Deleo

These two are the guitars I play most unplugged, when I’m watching something or winding down for bed. They’re the loudest, most resonant unplugged. I’ve come up with most of my stuff playing like this, and the litmus test for what’s worth keeping is, “is it good enough to run downstairs and plug into an amp?”

Give a sample of your current tone, it's probably shit.

Every guitar tone you've ever heard on a record was entirely produced in the studio and didn't sound at all like the amp in the room. It went through numerous transformers, compressors, EQ, microphones (or DI), preamps, a console board, possibly tape, and maybe numerous other runs of outboard gear.
