What's the current /mu/ consensus?

Your anus.

Too many flats.

We don't listen to music here.
>>
>fiery furnaces
people liked them here back in the day but they never had the meme potential that all /mu/core shit has
>>
After school I was sitting in the sitting room looking out at the pavers in their bright orange vests, holding up the slow-go diamond piece of plastic wood and I knew that I'd never be any good. Never have a hard hat and do things like that.

So I joined ICE :D

amazing album and still extremely unique, they also never got close to that level of climactic sound again which is a huge bummer
>straight street
>blueberry boat
>mason city
>chief inspector blancheflower
love the road up to springfield on my motorcycle brother michael part on that last one. almost all of its good and no other indie rock sounds like it. You really gotta get through the first track which is good in retrospect but it lacks the explosivness of many of the other songs and its incredibly long, you get to straight street and you're like woah these guys rock

one last detail I'll mention is they really repeat the same melodic motif a lot where they'll play a melody on one instrument and follow up on a different instrument with the same melody afterward but not layered ontop which is like one of the most simplistic ideas ever yet they use these infantile musical ideas and almost twist it into something experimental

I remember seeing this album all the time back in 2011 or so.

eleanor friedberger should've continued into making naval rap rock instead of chasing starbucks pop

>they also never got close to that level of climactic sound again
Bitter Tea is close but it's way more esoteric than this. Matthew Friedberger is one of the weirdest pop composers of our time and barely anyone cares. I mean the guy wrote a verse on this album almost entirely in pidgin Inuit. No one in this era come even close.

haven't heard this in years. on first re-impressions it sounds like the halfway point between like Not Available-->Commercial Album-era Residents and The Knife. really pretty enticing & original stuff, would return to it again
>>
The epitome of unlistenable 2quirky4u hipster bullshit

Could have appeal to fans of Rock in Opposition (Henry Cow, Art Bears, etc)
>>
I have claimed to love this band but listened to neither album all the way through, In My Little Grass Hut is a certified banger though
>>
I like this album a lot but I absolutely adore Rehearsing My Choir so I don't think about this one as often as it deserves.

Were pretty much the most interesting band to come out of the Brooklyn subsection of the NYC indie scene, but instead bands like MGMT and Grizzly Bear were propped up in their place (which makes sense, they were more accessible) so they kind of became critics' favorites rather than making the waves they really deserved. It's aged for sure, but I prefer their experimentation over Animal Collective's

Mason City has a really classic sound. Don't see how it's too quirky or unlistenable, especially as the epitome of either of those things.
