Hello once again. Pick a record on the shelf and I will show you what it is. The top row and middle row from the middle to the right are assorted. Bottom row and middle from right to middle are classical. Things you've seen so far (off the top of my head):
>Raspberry Bulbs - Privacy
>Pointed Sticks - What Do You Want Me To Do EP
>Officer - Life at the Water's Edge EP
>Red Spot Compilation (Subterranean Records; Minimal Man, etc.)
>This Heat - s/t
>Poco - Pickin Up the Pieces
>Flamin Groovies - Shake Some Action
>New Order - Movement
>Eddie Vedder - Into the Wild
>Heartworn Highways comp (Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark, David Allan Coe, Steve Young, etc.)
>Sharon Gal - Voice Studies 20 (cassette)
>Al Caiola - Midnight Dance Party
>assorted classical (Wagner, Beethoven, Bartok, Tchaikovsky, Franck, etc.)
Plenty more to look at

>third cubby/shelf from the right

Well done. Now I'm an oldtroon, though not that old, but this has been among my top albums for (just about) 2 decades. Everyone knows this band and they were incredibly popular but no one really seems to "know" them beyond the hits. I'll say two things about this. First is that Zal Yanovsky was one of the best guitar players in popular music, full stop. Second is that this album has some of my all time favourite songs.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4h8xpz-BR0 (the finger picking on this was quite influential to my own playing)
And I simply recommend listening to Zal's part on the obviously classic title track. I can't imagine this will be popular on this board but for me this is a top 5 band.

Sorry it was a typo. I meant left to middle in the middle row are classical. Middle to right in the middle row continue the assorted stuff.

Holy shit, I picked a good one if I do say so myself; fucking great band.

Yeah, they really lost something when Zal left. The thing is, I'm a fan of John Sebastian's solo career, and those solo songs he writes song like Spoonful songs to me--Welcome Back, for instance; so I really don't know why I find the other guy (Jerry Yester, I had to look him up) only half as interesting as Zal. I guess this is just an example of why some bands can be so interesting sometimes.
>>
I'll also add that Fishin Blues is my favorite Spoonful song, so good pick op.
Here's some respect to the og fishing blues

this would be a fun thread idea if even half of those were legible

OP here. I will reply to this thread shortly. However part of the "thing" is that you can't quite see anything. You can be vague (like "halfway through the fifth cubicle" or "x colour on y shelf") and I'll find it or something nearby. Being able to see the spines somewhat defeats my purpose.

Yeah simply not the same band. Zal's guitar was an absolute necessity, as of course was his energy and songwriting with John. I also really love John's solo stuff (have you ever heard the Cheapo Cheapo "Real Live" John album? it's his best and one of the best live albums in general - I've got that kicking around somewhere too), but have you heard this one from Zally? It's quite eclectic but interesting and has one of my favourite guitar tracks from him, I used to play it on guitar all the time once I'd learned it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vdS7RGVnjrk

Ah damn anon, I don't know how to tell you this, but... This actually contains excellent recordings of both the Coronation Mass and the Bassoon Concerto, and this pressing is nice as well.

Very nice and an interesting choice. This is, as it mentions, the first commercial (archival) recording of the first symphony with the Blumine movement under Brieff and the New Haven Symphony. I wouldn't exactly call it a popular choice or inclusion, but it's interesting and, so far as it goes, sounds good here.

>Cheapo Cheapo "Real Live"
I've heard some of it (whatever side had the "In the Still of the Night" cover) but not all of it; because at one point in my life I was buying more records than I could listen to. I think I'll really like it whenever I go back to it. I might give his solo debut another shot too, I remember being underwhelmed by that one.

And no, I've never heard Zally's album, though I've heard of it.
>that guitar tone
That's good Spoonful guitar right there.

Amen. I've dumped well over 1000 records over the years. If you can't keep it under control you become a "collector" and then it's well over for you. (That first side with that specific cover is of course very good stuff. I even credit John with getting me into doo wop, which I'd then ignored, as a direct result of that cover. In lots of ways this band has really hooked me up.)

It's over... Having said that, I'll add this thing I have kicking around. Three tapes, including stuff from 1978 to 1984, a lot of or possibly all of George Harassment stuff, Ici La Bas, and the Slick Alick song from 1981 (basically everything on the Black Noise label). I should hope anyone here even slightly into punk knows this band. Roughly as good as it gets in this genre.

reaaaaaallly coool album cover :) im not into classical of any sort but i bet this sounds cool on your turntable. what branch of classical would mahler fall under?
>>
>>129109447
It’s a bit of a mix between (Austrian and German forms of) romanticism and the modernism of the early 20th century. I wouldn’t necessarily start listening with that but its quite dramatic - the top shelf has more assorted things (or middle shelf for the middle to the right).
>>
I won't bump this artificially again but there was only one choice from the assorted stuff. If someone wants to see something else, I'm around again for today. If not, RIP.
