Posting 20 songs I've been enjoying recently in no particular order. Mostly some flavor of psych and about half Japanese. Probably better than whatever you're listening to. Feel free to add your own contributions.>1. Jacks - Marianne (1968 Japanese Psych Rock)https://youtu.be/7-fO14G4Rg0?si=3gheNH7NXP7o_QBd
>2. Reiko Kudo - Kaihatsu-san (Japanese ?? 2000)https://youtu.be/vVtdKPGwlaY?si=bzVJiFXVuVaHJEndI see this listed as avant-folk but I saw someone describe it as sounding like a Paul McCartney rehearsal and I thought that was more accurate. Probably my favorite of the songs I'm going to post.
>3. Dolly Mixture - Wave Away (1983 Twee)https://youtu.be/GlXTIOd_XJM?si=inmOz_wUgNjM9ioS
>>129136284>>129136491>>129136894We're still waiting for the 17 others.

>7. Los Hijos Del Sol - Linda Munequita (late 70s Peruvian psychedelic cumbia)https://youtu.be/Ugo2FRSMdZE?si=bCtp6XbLM4zB2JthThe most high energy thing I've got. The rest of the list is (mostly) a little more relaxed

>>129140863This is good. I've been recommended O'Rourke a dozen times over the years and never gotten around to him. >>129140899Oh, Yoko are very nice. Sorry you got filtered by LSD March.

>>129141330So many to pick from. The most consistent two hour album I've ever heard.
Sorry I keep forgetting to put my name on and mixing up the posting format. I'm going to continue the frustrating inconsistencies by introducing album art for the second half of the list.>11. Carol - So Low (1981 Minimal Synth)https://youtu.be/TKyWthAUBt4?si=BbabgSK6lWy0VlQ0

>>129146800oh yoko and carol are cool
>18. Ai Aso - 0805 (2020 Japanese Singer Songwriter)https://youtu.be/Oi1zcaJsHG4?si=ix5GiSVeftYrIjTpI love Ai Aso. Simple guitar arpeggios and vocals, performed quietly and recorded close. When she overdubs a vocal harmony it feels massive. I'm not sure you can write songs less complicated than this.
>>129136284It's got a nice atmosphere, but the instrumentation is too monotonous, and the noodling towards the end becomes grating.>>129136491She has a nice voice. Don't really care for the music, though. Too much noodling.>>129136894Very nice. Smooth, relaxing and soulful.>>129137267Similarly calm and relaxing. Not exactly what I'd vibe with but very pleasant.>>129137676Meh. This did nothing for me.>>129137707It's okay. Does nothing for me.Gonna send something completely different your way.Sonnenbrandt - Rotes telefon (2008 German Synthpop):https://youtu.be/80-uR_N2f2U
>>129147665>noodling towards the end becomes grating>too much noodlingI'm a big noodling fan.I listened to your recs. The Japanese punk stuff all sort of blended together as I expected. I think punk has to do something weird to stick out to me or else it all just sort of sounds the same. I liked the Betrayer and Dead End songs the most. Do you like G.I.S.M.? They're the only Japanese punk band I really love. Also going to link Nurse who were a pretty good all girl hardcore band and Tranquilizer who are a noisecore band I come back to pretty often. Their whole discography is about 10 minutes long. The German synthpop song is great.>G.I.S.M. - Death Agonies and Screams (1980 Japanese Crust)https://youtu.be/4mtAamPzNow?si=Fy74AXuzyonnSCwK>Nurse - Discography (1983-84 Japanese Hardcore)https://youtu.be/UpGQDwfjwuY?si=4Nqj8tCIIMRw1Tq0>Tranquilizer - Tranquilizer (1985 Japanese Noisecore)https://youtu.be/pk6mgyw089A?si=BAFo_R2ePnwsIsvL
>>129147829>G.I.S.M.Who doesn't like 'em? Detestation is a classic. Endless Blockades..., Nightmare, Nuclear Armed Hogs and ...Syphilitic Vaginas... are my favorites.Bastard and S.O.B. are great, assuming you don't already know them.Bastard - Wind of Pain (1990 Japanese Hardcore):https://youtu.be/JA-k7mqo1AkS.O.B. - Leave Me Alone (1993 Japanese Thrashcore):https://youtu.be/cfgDMzWtoagI could also recommend Smut which is what would happen if Riot Grrrl discovered Celtic Frost-style Thrash Metal instead of Punk:https://youtu.be/kR9gbtY1SqUhttps://youtu.be/eaPEHcMKJRYhttps://youtu.be/DjXsXFIJnT4
>>129140607Nice burnout music. This triggered a happy memory for me. Thanks for sharing.
>19. Bobby Brown - Hawaii Nei I'll Miss You [Israel Bound] (1982 Pop)https://youtu.be/zU2AiBaSNFY?si=pWM-m6vgZ34vAYYy
>>129141193Ikue is also drummer for new york legend band DNA
>>129148037Whoa!
>20. L - The First Flower People (2006 Japanese Ambient Psychedelic)https://youtu.be/voigQIvk5jk?si=3p-IUhtKX4YdtztNOne of my favorite discoveries ever. Peaceful, layered. This thing is buried on a 5 disc charity compilation organized by David Tibet and friends. The Jarboe song right before it is pretty good, too.
Alright so that's it for the Cool Thread. My favorite moments were anon sharing that Ikue Mori song and anon letting me know he thought Oh, Yoko was beautiful but LSD March was unlistenable. Also enjoyed anon calling LSD March "burnout" music and reliving happy memories.Going to share a very special bonus 21st song that wasn't on the list to cap things off.>21. Ai Aso - Sweet Things (late 90s lofi dreampop)https://pedalrecords.bandcamp.com/track/sweet-thingsEarly demo from Aso recorded in poor quality but with a full band. One of her best songs.
Nice OP I like LSD March as well and I assume you like Les Rallizes Denudes Randomish dumphttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=65QTRMScflg&list=RD65QTRMScflg&start_radio=1https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bacWTnzkQ4Q&list=RDbacWTnzkQ4Q&start_radio=1https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LD_L5fNZ5m4&list=RDLD_L5fNZ5m4&start_radio=1https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4eq1e1LWko&list=RDl4eq1e1LWko&start_radio=1https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tlLVRmgid5E&list=RDtlLVRmgid5E&start_radio=1https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RO_LX-m74uw&list=RDRO_LX-m74uw&start_radio=1https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwMfensOaTs&list=RDzwMfensOaTs&start_radio=1https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVujuQl-msY&t=776sI like this live performance shizuka did with takashi mizutani
>>129148698Les Rallizes are my favorite band for over a decade now. I'll link another Jacks song from the album in the OP. The part that starts around 1:10 where they go from Am to Em and the vocal melody over top is the same chord change and melody from Memory is Far Away. 100% Mizutani got it from here.I'll go through your shares. I like Naoki Zushi and The Gun Club. I actually just saw that video of Mizutani with Shizuka for the first time yesterday. Very cool.>Jacks - Stop the Clockhttps://youtu.be/11vdrfKWeco?si=tmFcc-788f-KT2lw
>>129148774Based LRD enjoyer. I notice the similarities in chord progression. Which version of memory is far would you say it sounds most similar to? I’m listening and trying to compare it to the more clean versions of it such as the one in the mizutani album. I like that song a lot
bump
>>129136491I found this album in a share thread long ago, good stuff man.
>Virna Lindt - Underwater Boyhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-OcYQRDPks8
>>129151122Thank you, anon. Very nice.
>>129149226It sounds clear around 1 minute on the 77 Live versionhttps://youtu.be/LDkbmHzTdgY?si=Pb3ir3Zyxpt8krzf

>>129136284Your ideas intrigue me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter
>>129156960Thank you, anon. This is very validating. I don't have a newsletter in the works but maybe I'll make another thread in the next couple of weeks.
>>129157119Nice. My favorite from your posts was the Bobby Brown track, that guy had a beautiful sound. Never heard anything quite like it.
>>129136284comfy thread
>>129148037This guy was like the Ariel Pink of the 80sOr maybe Ariel got inspired by him
>>129141193I'm glad you like it.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJVxwPoHRSM
>>129162981This isn't bad. Philip Glass has always sort of filtered me. Maybe I would enjoy it more alongside the movie it was made for.
>>129145617I am a SUCKER for harpsichords. This is a great rec. Ever heard of Oppenheimer Analysis?
>>129166013Of course. This tune is great:https://youtu.be/1fAIYkwLjJc
>>129166088Fuck yes. My fave is Subterranean Desire. I hope you know about Karen Marks.
>>129166113Since we're on a Minimal Wave / Minimal Synth kick, here are some personal favs.Batang Frisco:https://youtu.be/6XxXr-jSW-8https://youtu.be/6PkM0RBieOwEnd of Data:https://youtu.be/7XsQ0fgTToMhttps://youtu.be/0xCsri8Y5kwEnsemble Pittoresque:https://youtu.be/CWl8e3JyfFMCircuit 7:https://youtu.be/-S-jIu7fpuYNominal State:https://youtu.be/YVu_j3UgY6k
>>129166183Thanks for these! Yes, minimal wave is my jam. If you know Bill Nelson, my night is made.
>>129166393I'm afraid I don't, but it appears he's Ian Nelson's brother. Bill is quite prolific with a career going back to 1971 although his last album was in 2021. Still, the man dedicated much of his life to making electronic music. What would you recommend? You probably already know of Solid Space, but these are my favorite tunes:https://youtu.be/nyWgMykF6Ighttps://youtu.be/tCXVIE1hF1ghttps://youtu.be/d3WKMl2wYsM
