I used to have a rubber soul tshirt many years ago, and one time I walked into a shop and an old white haired boomer working the counter pointed at it and shouted "that's the greatest album of all time!"
>>

I agree bruh that album has mad aura that shit is liminal
>>
I watched all of anthology, and the making of get back series.
In 1.5 speed.
And I've come to the realization that I hate the beatles.
There's maybe 10 songs at most I like, not love, like.
Id rather listen to the first plastic ono band album than any beatles shit.
There's absolutely NOTHING underneath the surface with them, you get what every song is in the first listen.
There's tv show theme songs, children's show learning songs, and commercial jingles that are just as catchy and memorable as Beatles songs, but I don't want to spend my free time listening to them, there is no there.
They were the first and that's why it's historically important but there is nothing beyond that.
>>
>>129141609
White album has good songs overlaped by bad songs.
should have been a single LP, in that case, perhabs it would be the best.
>>129141640
I think you are being biased towards them

I'm grateful to the beatles, for all the copy cat bands they inspired : One Direction, Maroon 5, NSYNC, Jonas Brothers, BTS, Saja Boys. . . what a legacy they left, like father like son.
>>
>>129141664
>should have been a single LP
See, I don't disagree with this, but when I try to think about what songs to cut, I still end up with 3 whole record sides.
The remainders are palate cleansers that keep things interesting, like in a multi-course meal.

>>
the instrumental performances and sounds on rubber soul are maybe their best ever. stuff like "the word" is so sick. when the bass and drums come in on "if i needed someone" that is a serene new sound that hadn't happened yet. on rubber soul their playing still has the extreme vitality but there's more overdubs and countermelodies etc, the arrangements are a bit fuller. maybe their sound peak
>>
worst song: mr kite.
best song: bungalow bill

everything else is subjective and dependant on your own tastes
>>
>She's so
>Hebeee
what did they mean by this

i tried to hate them but the chords they choose and the melodies they sing over them are so consistently good

they'll do something simple like take a d chord to a c# chord to a c chord just going down one halfstep at a time and somehow it becomes interesting

Which Beatle had the best solo career? For me, it's:
John > George > Paul
(Haven't listened to Ringo stuff but I can't be bothered to)

I mean, you can argue that Paul had the best albums and such, but they lack soul in my opinion.

Pic related is so fun.
>>

>>
>>129149498
You should listen to Ringo (album). It's genuinely pretty good with two or three songs that are actually great.
>>
>>129149498
George had a rough patch in the mid 70s but his solo work is still the most enjoyable for me. John was just too self-righteous and self-obsessed for most of his short solo career, Paul's has entirely too many albums, and Ringo has barely 3 that are even worth considering.

>Paul during the Pepper era was the hip man about town of swinging london, leading the band in all kinds of wild experiments and patronizing the underground culture scene.
>John during the Pepper era was a bored family man stranded in the suburbs, and all his songs from the period were either about the dullness of his life or based on random shit he read in newspapers or antique posters because he didn't have any other inspiration.
The mogging nagged at John so badly that he skipped directly to midlife crisis mode and dumped his family for a radical art hoe just to regain some cred with the cool kids.
>>
>>129151899
I really like his two 1970 albums. Sentimental Journey is a very nice standards album that absolutely deserved none of the hate and ridicule it got, and Ringo actually sang pretty well on it (by his standards). Beaucoups of Blues was a really good and really authentic country album made with the top Nashville musicians and songwriters.

Really? Because I know it as a rush job.
>>
>>129141609
Definitely
The thing with the White Album is that the bench is too deep, the lore is too strong, the mysteries that transcend reason circulate around it, total information overload in the tumultuous live and evil spiral of 68. When you GET into the White Album, all of the chaos surrounding it makes absolute sense in hindsight. Learning about the sessions and all the players involved in one way or another heightens the album's strengths and what was considered the lows. There is this tension between them which is obvious but then these moments of union shine in the band's dedication to performance. I'm at the point where this thing, imo is perfection in the way Rubber Soul was, and yet, I'd take the White Album for the #1 spot, the excellence of it is beyond being an album. It's a living zeitgeist in your headphones, hardly is there any other musical document that was this zoned in, like this tapped way the fuck in

It's a weird thing. I don't deny that they're more experimental and create some really cool, unique sounds in the later days + John, Paul, and George all become better songwriters as time goes on, but I can't enjoy the later days the same way I love the early days because they're constantly fighting, angry with each other, and strung out on crap that it's tough to watch. I love the early days because they're friends having fun getting into stupid antics while making music they enjoy and they don't feel like killing each other all the time. You just can't beat all the silly stuff they do in the early years.
>>
>>129154322
Rubber Soul was not only the Beatles firing on all cylinders as both writers and musicians, it was probably the last time all four of them were more or less on the same page creatively. It was the last Beatles album that could be described as 100% a group effort, even though some differences of priorities were already starting to show especially with Paul's increasing perfectionism. Revolver is still a great album it's where it starts to sound like three artists merely sharing space.
>>
>>129154595
100% agree, and I think that's a big part of why I just stop caring about them later on. I like them the most when they feel like a group of friends first and a band second.

also take into consideration that they were competitive, they wanted to be ahead of the curve, musically speaking
