How much does quality of a guitar matter? I'm a poorfag that got a hand me down acoustic which apparently has a horrible action and other things I can't tell cause I'm a beginner
>>
>>129188644
It matters but remember, perfect is the enemy of good. Keep practicing on your shitty acoustic. When you finally play a good acoustic, it'll feel like removing weights

Stratocaster - Princess

After a certain point of manufacturing quality setup becomes more important. Chances are that you have a decent instrument and anything not right is either a simple fix or your own technique.
>>

I dont know how horrible your acoustic guitar is, but mine sure was and it discouraged me from playing guitar when i was 7 many winters ago. The string distance between the nut and first fret was about 1/4 inch w steel strings. Made me quit instantly and obly had the balls to try when again when i was 12.
Tldr how shitty it is can really affect if youre gonna stick with the instrument or everytime you pick it up is an exercise in frustration (even with more experience ill never pickup guitars that shitty save to play slide)

Its easy to fuck up removing material from the nut and the bridge on acoustic - specially if you dont have the tools or experience. Stew mac on youtube, old experienced dude lotsa tips but ofc he shills his tools.
Good luck on getting gud on guitar. Always be working on one of the three - your ear, theory, technique. You can do all at once by kearning a song by ear, analyzing the chords, scales used n shiet and of course the actual execution. Cheers

If you want your guitar to have stickers on it, do it. If you want your sticker to be entirely clean, keep it clean.
Who gives a shit? Johnny greenwood makes a lot of money playing guitar, not to mention he's a great guitarist, and his guitars is pic related
>>
>>129189148
Truss rod is easy, you probably already have the allen key for it though you will need a notched straight edge to get the fretboard to where you want it. The nut and bridge in your case are going to be tough spots. I’m not actually sure how to adjust an acoustic bridge, but the nut is easy enough to deal with since they make wire gauge files on Amazon for cheap in case your nut is super high and cotton balls + superglue are a cheap and easy fix if your nut is cut too deep. I wouldn’t worry about fret leveling but if you’re feeling bold you could get a cheap luthier kit that comes with the fret sanding bar and a chinesium fret crowning tool.

Or you could call a local guitar shop and see what the rate is for a setup of you ain’t got time for that shit
>>
>>129187933
Precision for the fact that it sounds good all the time, in any mix. I do love my jazz bass, but it's fucking noisy if you only use one pickup. Even throwing in some Fender Noiseless pickups didn't entirely fix it.
Not a huge issue, worth the trade for more tonal options, but the simplicity of the P bass is comfy.

At the end of the day, regardless of model, maple necks are preferred. They just look and feel so much better, imo.
>>

Jazz always, juicy bridge pickup and mixing potential. You can get closer to a P than a P can to a J, close enough for a mix desu.

A string is attached to two points and is plucked. How to model the string's oscillations? Let's say it's in the vacuum, there is no gravity, the two attachment points are super hard and thus do not consume energy, and also the string does not get hotter and is absolutely black.

>>
>>129188644
it matters slightly, what matters more is if it can be set up and maintain the setup. For me, most MIM and Jap fenders are more than good enough to maintain a setup that’s perfect for my needs. There are cheaper options that can as well, some of the mid tier Epiphones and so far, the Sonic series Squiers have been great options that are very cheap but play very nicely with a thorough setup.

Hey Justin, I’m Les Paul Larry and I’m an oral surgeon in more ways than one. I overdose my patients with propofol and suck on their dinks before and after the surgeries. The Les Paul is my favorite guitar, I have five of them hanging on walls in the rooms of my dentist office.
>>
>>129187344
not when I've got my boss ac3, steel strings have more power and articulation than the muddy sounds of nylon
>>
>>129190742
it has a 0.5 watt mode also
>>
>>129190705
I’d have to see the frequency response charts to say anything for certain but the amp and speaker needs to be matched to the room size and you can make up the difference somewhere else in the chain

bought a cv60s bass for $225, has a dent and a big scratch next to the volume knob. leaves a lot to be desired compared to my AVII but I’ll do some mods to it and leave this as the slap bass. Only 4 high frets, relief and action were abysmal but thankfully the truss rod has plenty of engagement left. tuners are dogshit and I’ll also replace the bridge

Me:

Custom Shop USA guitar: $5,000
Mesa amp: $3,000
Mesa cab: $1,000
Pedalboard (w/ pedals and powersupply): $3,000

my band plays 3 times a year
>>
>>129191831
Wow nice rig. This yours?
>>

My first bass was a Classic Vibe 60s too. Fucking AWFUL setup. I quit trying to learn a few times until a buddy set it up for me. I've since learned myself. But holy shit, you'd think instruments aimed at beginners would be setup properly. Cheap out on the hardware and electronics, but not the playability.

I don’t get it either. it seems to me that a store would sell more guitars overall if they simply had a basic action/relief/pickup height adjustment. I can do one of those in 15 mins or less

Made up a new practice schedule for myself. Going to start it tonight after work but the goal is to actually spread all the practice routine stuff out throughout the day. I am up at 5am and dont leave until 640 for my first shift. I can knock out a pretty good amount of the routine during my morning time. The goal with the staying with one progression each week, is trying to see how many different ways I can use a progression.
>>
>>129192181
do you have a list of progressions? 1-4-5 and 1-6-5-2 covers like 99% of western music
>>
>>129191686
sheesh that's a lot of fixing. nice color and nice cat though.
>>
>>129192181
Im also thinking of changing the time amount
>scales to 15 minutes
>book time to 15 minutes
>jam time to 15 minutes
>play along 15 minutes
The goal is to focus most of my time on writing but I need to get better at the fundamentals. I think maybe 30 minutes at the start might be overwhelming. I'll slowly increase the time limit probably max 25 minutes for each area. I think 20 might be the sweet spot but I want to get the routine down before adding time.

>>129192201
Yup I have a book and also a website that has a lot of progressions on it already.
>>
>>129192228
thanks m8, my first painted headstock I like it so far. also the cat is getting older so he’s getting more needy. he interrupts my practice time a lot when the girlfriend isn’t home

>>129192329
Yeah i feel things like my ear training and better accuracy will be things that overlap in the routine. Every week the goal is 10 songs with 1 progression. If i hit the goal then I move onto the next one in the book. I feel like that's a reasonable goal.

>>129192583
I hung the board at my chest instead of above me/head level. Im 6'4 so I didn't want it insanely high.

Absolutely not worth it but if you're thinking of buying it, you're already a sucker.
You don't need that live, in a studio, or in a bedroom. Gonna sound like shit through a guitar amp and if you're recording into a DAW, just use plugins.

All reverbs are going to be digital unless it's something like a Surfy Bear spring tank (that you can kick on the ground for more effects) which would actually be worth a physical pedal for
>>
>>129192826
get the full size tonex pedal instead

>>129192886

>>
>>129192826
Yes it's worth it, don't listen tot he poorfags. Back in the 2000s if you wanted this caliber of digital reverb you had to spend thousands on expensive rack units, once you've gone through that Strymon gear seems like a bargain (which it is). Yeah they've become a meme because of worship guitarists and overusing the shimmer reverb, but who gives a shit about trends, there are so many other useful reverbs on here. No cap, i've never felt the need to get another reverb since i bought mine when they came out like 12 years ago.

Back in 2003 my job had me stuck in a hotel in Jackson Hole WY, I was up late watching television one night (that's what we used to do back in 2003) and an infomercial came on the TV that absolutely amazed me. It assured me even I could learn to play. By the time it went over I had the room phone in hand and was ordering my dream guitar. I sprang for the deluxe package with the genuine wood guitar, velvet lined hard case, extra strings, "How to play the guitar" VHS tapes, "Best of CD", and even a tuner gizmo. That is how I ended up with the sweet sweet Esteban acoustic guitar that my 16 yo daughter now takes to school twice a week to her guitar class. I told her to take good care of it as it's so valuable and to make sure the teacher locks it up before and after class.
