Rust in Peace, Megadeth. It's been a great ride with many ups and downs, i'd say they ended on a good note with this album.

i thought the exact same thing lmao
would have figured dave would sneak in one final act of deviance and absolutely tear it up
>>
>>129205170
he said they were gonna play it faster and do something interesting with the leads and it wound up being a near-exact cover with worse production and vocals
what was even the point of any of this? dave already used the spider riff on wake up dead, and it's not like he wasn't credited for RTL. if he wanted to be a bitch he could've done leper messiah since he still claims he wrote that one. or he could've done jump in the fire with the original lyrics and solos. this whole thing is just odd
>>
>>129205167
I guess it comes full circle from Metallica using Mustane's riffs on their first 2 albums.

I like what I've heard so far, RTL is slightly faster and tight as hell. Dirk is a beast of a drummer. Anyone going to see them live this year?
>>
>>129205167
>>129205170
Maybe he chose RtL for the lyrical meaning. Let me explain:
One thing that separates Megadeth from most metal bands is that Megadeth songs are, lyrically, less D&D/horror movies and more "here's what's on my mind today", particularly with their post-CtE output. Results vary of course.

Maybe ending with RtL was his goofy way of saying "I'm done".
>ayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy don't want tooooo dieeeeeeeeeeee
>>
>>129205188
>what was even the point of any of this?
who knows, but i'm sure the point wasn't to please edgy djentspergs on a forum for adult virgins with special needs
>>
>>129205105
It's not like they'll disappear. They're gonna tour and from what I read, there's no set end date to that tour. They will probably play live until Mustaine's left hand fingers are too fucked to play.

>>129205188
>>129205846
>what was even the point of any of this?
He said himself that he just thought because the first Megadeth album closed with a Metallica song it was neat to end the last Megadeth album with a Metallica song. And that he always liked the spider riff that he came up with for Ride the Lightning and that he wants to pay respect to Metallica.
>>
>>129205105
The Charlie Kirk tribute track was a bit on the nose
>>
Yah it was fun. Ride the lightning is the highlight
>>
apparently the movie they released recently had a whole section dedicated to super collider but barely anything about endgame and united abominations

Bands NEVER stay retired. As soon as Dave wants more money they'll do a reunion
The thing is no one wants to see a reunion without Marty. Kiko is the next best option but he hates Megadeth (same as Marty) and wants nothing to do with it
>>
>>129206282
lol which one?
>>
i wish we could be more holesum chungus about dave retiring since its kind of obvious that a 40 year old band is going to make forgettable stuff. but i guess dave has acted to memey for too long to get any chungusness from the broader metal community.

that was the only song I listened to and it was terrible
glad Dave finally gave up, he could never compete with Metallica
>>
Friedman > Loureiro > Poland > Broderick > who cares?

Those 4 are the only one that matter. And Broderick wasn't even that memorable.
Marty, Kiko and Chris are THE definitive Megadeth lead guitarists. Everyone else was just hired guns who didn't do anything memorable

It’s not horrible, but not jaw dropping. I prefer Endgame and Dystopia for modern Megadeth. This album does have a few bangers on it, so that’s enough for me.

>last two songs also both cite final curtain
I think it's more than the end of the band, I don't think he'll make it to 70 and he knows it, still shouldn't have covered Metallica, ultimately people will remember him still hanging on to it, personally would've preferred something from Sabbath with their ascension/christian themes instead of burning into ashes

I'd put Chris above Kiko personally but I like them both. And while the rest were mostly hired guns, I've always thought Pitrelli stood out. His solos were great. Also I was surprised to see just how involved in writing Teemu was on this album, he's credited on tons of songs. Pretty good solos too.

Great way to end it imo. Solid record on its own. Hearing KimB-era type of songs in modern Megadeth was refreshing as fuck.

But still wondering if we ever going to get that trash metal Christmas record. That shit was hype.

>>129205167
>plays his solo
>but better
For Kirk it is. Now with AI they could reconstruct Dave's voice to see how it would sound with young/Youthanasia Mustaine vocals. Personally, I would've loved 1.2x speed on it but it was good already.

It's an okay album. Glad the ride is finally coming to an end. It's been swell.
>>
Listened to 3 songs, couldn't stand much more than that. The production on the entire album sounds so fucking thin; usually I hate all modern metal production, but this went in the complete opposite direction.

RtL was a disappointment beyond belief, a note for note cover doing nothing new outside of Dave needing to change his vocals because he can't hit those notes anymore. Halfway through it and I was just asking myself "is this it? a shittier-produced version?" Just lazy and boring, dunno how any fan gets excited for that cover but evidently first post rated it a 10/10 so go fucking figure lel.
>>
>>129212089
>plays his solo but better
see this would be a good point if dave played the whole thing himself, which he didn't. he had to have kiko play some of it. which just makes it more humiliating for dave

>>
>>129213828

>>
>>129213895
Idk why but he did it already with other albums, like keeping a good rare one as bonus (new world order in youthanasia, the evil that's within, black swan, last dying wish and others from dystopia)
>>
>>129212089
>"But it's like a recollection of all the strands of sound accross the band's history"

Pretty much sums up this album, doing an album that's a mix of (almost) everything you've done over the years is a great way to end your career imo.
>>
Not one of their worse albums, but nothing really stand out. Worst track was probably RTL and it wasn't even close. Dry production and not exciting, Dave didn't even rewrite the solo, worse than a high school talent show cover.
>>
megadeth died when dave decided he was a songwriter instead of just a guy who wrote the best riffs in the business
all the best early megadeth songs are just him cycling through killer riffs without much regard for any kind of structure
>>
did dave copy taylor swift by releasing an album movie in theatres?
>>
>>129210999
I wouldn't be surprised if it was Teemu who sneaked in those early Megadeth influences into riffs. He is a fanboy after all

He got the all clear from his cancer treatment I think like 2/3 years ago. But I sure hope it isn't back. He does still look frail and sick. He's definitely aware his time is running out. Plenty of the lyrics on this album are themed around it.

Thoughts on Hey God lyrics?

[Verse 1]
Hey, God
I need a minute of your time
I know that I've been missing lately
I've had a lot of things on my mind
Hey, God
I feel my life slipping away
There's so much left I wanna do
The years are passing by like days

[Chorus]
Sometimes, I feel so insecure
As I walk these streets alone

[Verse 2]
Hey, God
It feels like you're so far away
I know that it was me that moved
I never had that much to say
Hey, God
I don't know why you care at all
I'm always taking up your time
I'm always missing when you call

[Chorus]
Sometimes, I feel so insecure
As I walk these streets alone
So alone

[Guitar Solo]

[Guitar Solo]

[Verse 3]
Hey, God
I always take, I never give
I know it doesn't look so good
But it ain't the way I wanna live
Hey, God
That's all I really got for now
I thought that we'd have more to say
Please, let me know you're there somehow

[Chorus]
Sometimes, I feel so insecure
As I walk these streets alone
Sometimes, I feel so insecure
As I walk these streets alone

[Outro]
Can you hear me?
Hey, God
Hey, God

My phone is dead, and the rent is due
I lost my job and I lost a tooth

I tried so hard to keep things straight
But every move just tempts my fate
You moved on, and I stayed behind
Trapped in a life I can't rewind

My life's a mess, but I call it mine
Dusted dreams in a cluttered mind
Every scar is a line I drew

Ozzys time was up like over 9000 times over the years. It should have been over after Diary of a Madman already. And in a way it was always over after that. A certain someone just kept him going as a product releasing more and more slop just so she could afford another Chihuahua and facelift.

I see no issue; Metallica is not something anyone metal related should get near and borderline textbook case on how not to do things. Megadeth should never tour a heavy pop band, not even at its absolute worst. It'd be like any band touring with Motley Crue.

I liked Tipping Point, Puppet Parade and The Last Note. There's not a single song on the record as good as The Threat Is Real. Dystopia was pretty mid overall. The Sick and the Dying was pretty shit, Ice T was a death sentence for that one, have no idea what the fuck they were thinking. Gave me flashbacks to Forbidden from Sabbath (which is a much better album). I came away still thinking the only two actually good albums from Megadeth after Youthanasia are Endgame and United Abominations.

>>

>>
The Last Note was originally called Jumpers and was about people killing themselves off the Golden Gate bridge but he thought the lyrics were too dark lol. Then when they decided halfway through making the album it should be their last they reworked it to be the last song about packing it in.

Source: I made it up. Nah but really some interview on YouTube

Bro nightstalkers is one of the best songs of the modern Megadeth era. Ice T is on it for what.... 15 fucking seconds? Relax.
>>
>>129257480
Yes they're fucked. And he said he won't let anyone touch his hands for surgery until he's fully retired. So who know maybe a few years into retirement he could get the surgery and it might fix shit to the point he can play well enough to do more stuff. Very unlikely though. But I'm sure he could put out a "Dave Mustaine" solo album or something and not Megadeth. I think World Needs a Hero was actually going to be a Dave Mustaine album but he was basically forced to make it Megadeth by the label

What I meant was that it was a bad omen. I came in with a sense of dread before it even released because it reminded me of Forbidden. I wasn't necessarily complaining about the song. That said, I didn't really like it very much.
>modern Megadeth era
What do we consider modern Megadeth? I'd say everything from The System Has Failed to now. Like I said, in comparison to United Abominations and Endgame, everything else is pretty mediocre to outright bad.
>>
>>129255618

Considering the guy in question is Dave Mustaine, I 100% see the guy having the surgery in the next 2 years with these 2 done with non-invasive treatment only to fully recover in 6 months and then go back to play like nothing really happened lmao

>>129259810
This should tell you enough: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KecXxv-GuTY

tl,dr; baggage from basically everything else but the band itself.
>>
>>129260605
Every time I see that clip, I can't help but think how pathetic Dave looks here. I mean, he was a degenerate alcoholic drug addict who wouldn't change unless he had a real kick in the ass. I mean, he didn't get clean until he was kicked out of Metallica, and his own band, which went onto be massively successful fell apart twice. I empathize with the "I wish Cliff was still here" at the end though. This should've never been recorded.
>>
>>129261490
The problem with Mustaine is that he never got clean until the late 90s, after being kicked out the fucker still couldn't leave abuse due the chaotic nature of Megadeth's early years. The shit that really pisses me off is Lars; the context behind SkoM was bad enough for him and Metallica as is but even when forced to deal with ghosts of the past having Dave next to him in the same room the faggot was still trying to weasel his way out of any responsability avoiding to say the simplest "The way I handled the act was wrong on my part". I don't think he looks pathetic but way too well composed for the kind emotional scar he carries, the way he tl; dr for Lars hits like a truck when you think about it.

IMO that was the time to leave it all behind, not with gay ass therapy but with Mustaine decking the fucker in that room. Newsted really got the last laugh after a decade of being a punching bag lmao
>>
>>129261613
Idk man, call me a cynic but I have a real hard time empathizing with their beef. Like I said, this and the Some Kind of Monster movie in general should've never been made. Too much inside baseball that should've never been aired out in the public eye. To me, it always felt like a "never meet your heroes" kinda thing.

THE TIME HAS COME TO BEAT MORGAN WALLEN!

https://www.hitsdailydouble.com/news/charts/morgan-megadeth-midweek-2026-01-27

>With Morgadeth, could we have another tight battle for the pinnacle of the HITS Top 50 on our hands?

>Big Loud/Mercury/Republic’s Morgan Wallen is eyeing a return to #1 with I’m the Problem. That would make it 14 nonconsecutive weeks atop the chart for the 2025 blockbuster. But Morgan has a metal monster on his tail.

>That would be Megadeth, which, 17 albums into its discography, has finally released a self-titled LP (via Nuclear Blast); the band will have the week’s top bow and could conceivably take the top spot.

>How will this tussle for #1 shake out? Don't touch that dial.

THE PROJECTIONS WERE ACCURATE!

MEGADETH IS CONFIRMED NUMBER 1!

https://www.billboard.com/music/chart-beat/megadeth-first-number-one-album-billboard-200-chart-1236169046/

The new self-titled album earned 73,000 equivalent album units in the United States in the week ending Jan. 29, according to Luminate — marking the act’s best week, by units earned, since the chart began ranking by units in December 2014. The bulk of that sum was driven by pure album sales (purchases of physical and digital copies of the album), totaling 69,000. That’s the biggest sales week for any Megadeth album since 1999, when Risk opened with 74,000 sold.

Of Megadeth’s 73,000 equivalent album units earned in the latest tracking week, album sales comprise 69,000 (it debuts at No. 1 on Top Album Sales), SEA units comprise 4,000 (equaling 4.23 million on-demand official streams of the set’s tracks) and TEA units comprise a negligible sum. Sales of the album got a boost from its availability across more than a dozen vinyl variants, a Target-exclusive CD with a bonus track, and the mid-week release of deluxe digital download version of the album with another bonus track.

Of the album’s 69,000 sales, physical purchases of CD, vinyl and cassette tapes totaled 56,000, with 22,000 of that sum on vinyl. That marks Megadeth’s best week on vinyl in the modern era (since Luminate began electronically tracking sales in 1991).

Megadeth’s debut of 73,000 units marks the lowest sum at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 since last May, when SZA’s SOS returned to No. 1 on the May 3-dated chart with 52,000 units.

Dating to Megadeth’s debut on the Billboard 200, the band’s 39-year, three-month and one-week wait for its first No. 1 is the longest any act has waited for a first No. 1 since 2016.

Literally how come?
How did they managed to reach Number 1 in several countries when the songs are quite forgettable and formulaic?
Although Dave marketed this album as the last one, I doubt anyone outside the metal scene would care at all. The album wasn't even shilled that hard.
Other releases were more impactful, like endgame or dystopia. Yet, they barely made a fuss in the industry.
Either this album is getting insanely lucky or the rest of music music is so fucknig dead and barren than a boomer thrash metal band is outperforming literally superstars recognized by the entire world.
